Does anybody here own a silencer? How do you like them? What do you have? Any advice on this would be awsome because i'm thinking about picking one up. Thanks.

I own one and many others here do, what do you want one for? Pistol? Rifle?

They are not Hollywood quiet and I suggest you attend a shoot where they are available for you to try out.

Bluker1 here on the boards is a Class III dealer and can get you what you want and answer your questions.

What are the laws about owning Silencers? I thought you had to had a Class 3 license to even touch one?

No it requires a tax stamp that you pay $200.00 for and paperwork. The paperwork is slightly different depending on the method you use.

i have a gemtec outback 2 in 22lr and a gemtec halo in 223. the 22 is reallt quiet and a ton of fun. the 223 is just enough for you to not lose your hearing but still really loud. 2 of the guys have let me shoot 9mm silencers that were really cool and im sure my next can will be in 9mm.

I'm looking for 3 different ones.

1. For my AR-15, with some sub-sonic ammo it could be pretty quiet.

2. The next one would be for a 45. Just for the coolness factor. I'll put it on a 1911, or hk tactical.

g. The last one would be for a 9mm. For 92fs or sig.

Anybody have silencers in these calibers?

Of the ones you listed above, I have a suppressor for 5.56 I use on my AR's. It is an AAC spr/m4. It is nowhere near hollywood quiet, but it is comfortable to shoot without plugs in. I shoot full power loads through it. I havn't shot any subsonics through it. You have to be carefull with shooting the subs, and make sure your barrel twist rate can stabalize the heavy bullets so you don't get a baffle strike. As far as picking a suppressor you have to decide if you want a thread on style (where you would have to pull the flash hider or muzzle brake off of your AR to use), or a fast attach can (where you have to buy adapters to put on each gun you want to use) and then their is the style like the gemtech halo. (It is relatively fast attach and you dont have to buy adapters for each gun) It fits on a standard A2 flash hider. (You just have to time up the A2 with peel washers which is simple and cheap. For an AR, I prefer a fast attach can like the halo, spr/m4 etc. For a bolt action or precision rifle I prefer a thread on. Just my .02 though.

Your choice of .45 and 9mm are great. .45 is subsonic to begin with and 9mm is subsonic with 147 grn. bullets.

Do not waste your time and money on a .223 if you want to shoot subsonics. I loaded some subsonics for my AWC Raider. You will create two problems first off to stay subsonic you need to be 1000 fps or slower. Think about this if you load .223 to subsonic levels all you have done is turned your AR into a .22 why? The next problem is it will not cycle with subsonics so you also turned it into a single shot rifle. Yeah I will admit it was neat to try the only thing you could hear was the hammer droping it literally sounded like I dry fired it. It is pointless might as well get a .22 can and shoot that. I can shoot full power loads all day long with out hearing protection with my raider. It sounds like a .22 rifle unsuppressed.

I will be at the south shoot location this saturday with my two cans .22 predator and AWC raider your welcome to try them if you come. If your serious contact Alan and get with him at his place and you can demo any can you can imagine. We shoot in his driveway all the time into the side of the mountain.

I've got a TAC-52 now. Gemtech Outback II on order.

My next suppressor will be 9mm. I just need to get with Alan about which one.

I haven't decided if I want one that's full-auto rated or not. Or maybe I need one of each...

I recommend the SWR Trident 9. That is what I run on my G17.

About how quiet is the SWR Trident with 147gr ammo? What about 115gr ammo? Is there a huge difference?

I'm trying to decide whether to go with a Walther P22 set-up, or a Glock 17/19 set-up.

P-22 setup will sound about like a pellet gun.

SWR trident with 147's sounds about like a large pneumatic nail gun (framing).

Both will make you giggle like a school girl.

OK, I'll take it. E-mail inbound.

If you want ultimate in quiet get an integrally suppressed 10/22. The barrel is ported to keep all ammo subsonic (even when shooting at 20deg and 8000 feet as can happen in Colorado) and they are just a little louder than dry firing. I love mine.

What would be the quietest 9mm silencer out there? I've been looking at a AAC.

Between the AAC Evo9 and the SWR Trident9 you cannot go wrong. My best friend has an EVO and I have a Trident and we shot them side by side many times. There is almost no diffrence in dB level. The Tident does have a slightly larger volume and therefore has a lower tone that is a little more pleasing to me but I would not let that influence my decision.

Not at all.

If I owned one, :( , and we went out shooting I could most certainly let you shoot the gun I have it mounted on. You could even shoot it all day long, I just have to stay nearby while you have it. There are places around the country where you can rent full auto guns and also ones with suppressors. Although I don't know of any places for sure in Colo. I do think bluker1 did at one time. Don't know if he still does. You'd have to ask him.
