I have dubious honor of living in DeGette's district. My letter to her:

"As a matter of principle, I oppose the sort of firearm restrictions and magazine bans that Rep. DeGette has just sponsored.

It appears that Democrats have forgotten the lessons of the 1994 Assault Weapons ban. That ban preceded the 1994 elections in which Democrats became a minority party in Congress. Bill Clinton acknowledged that the 1994 AWB was instrumental in the losses.

Democrats are donning the mantle of the "Ban the Guns" party, and that role is not going to sit well with a lot of voters who will discover that the new legislation will impact their hunting rifles and their defensive handguns. In the past couple elections, a lot of people have been voting for Democrats, saying, "They'll never come after our guns." Looks like that attitude is going to be changing.

Although District 1 in Colorado is a safe Democratic district, others in the state and across the US are not. Mark Udall will be facing a statewide vote. Jared Polis undoubtedly is safe in Boulder County, but shouldn't count on support in Fort Collins or rural areas of his district."

Well stated. Writing is better than not writing and I fear too many are still sitting on the sidelines, failing to have their voices heard while their rights are under siege.

Are criminals, drug dealers or thugs going to respect the law if your magazine ban legislation proposal is passed? No, they won't. Unless you disarm every single noun in the united states and seal our borders so no weapons can enter all this ban will do is serve to decrease the ability of law abiding citizens to even come close to arming themselves to the level any street thug easily can already. You can't feasibly remove all illegal guns from criminals them so why are you trying to disarm law abiding citizens who need protection against people who legally or not will have all the guns and ammunition they want?

-respectfully

one of your constituents who attended college where a major shooting occurred, has had a roommate murdered, and would not be allowed the right to legally arm himself to protect his own family to the extent the above criminals were if this bill were to pass.

My draft of something I'm sending her

at least as a member of her district she wont just say "I represent my district not you so fuck off."

It'll be something more along the lines of "you are wrong, fuck off"

Are you a registered democrat so you could vote against her in a primary? Only way she'll ever go away unless appointed somewhere.

I left the Democrat party sometime in the early 80's. And I don't believe that she's ever had an opponent in a primary election. I don't think Denver will ever elect a non-Democrat rep. The only threat that they face is that of being a member of a minority party.
