Hickenlooper also signaled he is open to discussing a tax increase for education and additional limits on gun ownership.
“I’m sure we’ll look at assault weapons. I’m not sure anything will happen there. I’m sure high-capacity magazines will be discussed. I’m sure background checks, looking at every single person, if you’re going to buy a gun, just get a background check, a basic background check to make sure you don’t have a history of felonies or emotional instability,” said Hickenlooper.
Hey Hick. No. Sorry, will not comply, even if you pass a law.
we need More tax increases for education? Luckily we have TABOR.
I really do think that schools are not going to be happy until they are 20% of the economy

I don't get that, the more money needed to improve our schools... My dad graduated HS in the mid 1970's, he's one of the smartest men I know, he can solve problems, function very well, and owns his own business. They did that on about 1/3 of the budget schools have today. I don't see the problem being they need more money, they need to learn how to use what they have better.

This argument was almost verbatim what was said in the dissenting opinion sent in the issues-guide (or whatever they called it) before the ballots arrived, and it is absolutely true. I voted no on all the proposed tax increases.

Your dad was also taught to sit down, shut up and show respect to the teacher. If he didn't he more than likely got whatever instrument applied to his backside.
He was also taught if you don't succeed, work harder next time and don't quit. He was also taught to admire and respect the successful man.
He was also made aware early in life what it means to win with humility, and lose with grace and dignity.
He didn't get a ribbon for showing up.
Win, place or show.

The St. Vrain Vally School District just recieved another 14 million dollars complements of the tax payer. Much of that money goes to support the growing influx of illegal alien kids in the school district.
As far as TABOR goes you watch, they will try to monkey around with that this year during the state legislative session.

We don't need to train children to be competitive in the word of 1980, or 2013. They, and the US, need to be competitive in the world of 2020 and beyond. I'm not an educator, but to me, we need to combine the best of what the world's highest ranked countries are doing (longer hours, more days, more emphasis on scholarship, and differing paths for can/can't) and a path that takes advantage what's unique to the US - a strong entreprenurial spirit and willingness to challenge the status quo. College isn't for everyone, nor should it be. We don't have the blue collar job base we used to enjoy, though, and that, along with "everyone can be anything they want", limits our ability to optimize educational resources.

I agree wholeheartedly (even though I'm a school dropout - with no children to educate). However, advocating for investment in education so as to be internationally competitive as a nation on a gun forum is asking for ridicule, -just a little warning.

I could rant about that one but wont. done is done. Just curious when the next override will show up on the ballot.
TABOR = calling things fees instead of taxes.

If most people only knew what that money was being used for.

Sorry, but if it's between Hickenlooper and Fascistein, I'll take Hick's view. Compromise is the only answer because after the latest shooting it's obvious it's not gonna be pretty and the 2ndA isn't gonna get a free ride, unfortunately.

There should be NO compromise... they should "discuss" the solutions, discover that gun control doesn't help, and then "discuss" things that WILL work.
if more gun owners were unwilling to "compromise" (which just means I'll give up a little more of my rights with NOTHING in return)
if the gun control is the "answer", then the question was never "what can we do to prevent another Aurora, Sandy Hook, Columbine?"

As to the discussion about schools, just look at UN Agenda 21. 'Nuff said.

^This.
No argument there, and I fully realize the 'slippery slope' argument as well. BUT I also see the writing on the wall within the last month especially. You have idiots like Biden & Fascistein running the legislation committee, then just to say "they did", meet with NRA, Brady, Walmart, etc. BUT you know they arleady have their minds made up. The only question is how much they think they can get away with. I would hope the worse is along the lines of what Hickenlooper stated. He knows full well that Colorado is a very gun-friendly state and a Sportsman's state. He's only in office with votes from all the dumbasses that have moved here from Mexifornia & NewPork and never left.
