View Full Version : what could go wrong?
so, I've been out of the Army for 3 months now... packed on a few pounds enjoying not doing PT anymore, but the fun is over and I've started PT every morning again.
1. The Elevation here SUCKS.... my lungs feel like they are going to explode from my chest.
I would like to start ruck marching/running again and this is where my "what could go wrong" question comes from. Obviously marching with my weapon is now a no-go.... but having my IOTV/ruck on, is there any laws I am breaking? Mainly speaking about having my IOTV on......
Nope, although depending on where you are, it may raise an eyebrow or two. Most of the metro area is pretty Mil friendly.
Nope. I run in my kit all the time. Just use some common sense and don't go running around banks, schools, liberals, etc...

I live up off of 36/broadway. right over by the sportsmans warehouse off of 84th.
Having a loaded IOTV is kind of essential, and I didn't see there being a legality issue, just wanted to check the wealth of knowledge here first.

LOL, there is a school right behind my house. I'll run the other way :P

I think you are asking for problems, you will be stopped and questioned before you make the first trip around the block.
You would draw less attention in a spandex running suit, wrist & ankle weights and a back pack.

Need a partner? I've been thinking about doing this to get my fat ass in shape
You can get one of those running weight vests. Some are adjustable and go over 100 lbs in weight.

You think? There are installations here, I would think a cop would know better than to harass a soldier that's obviously working out. Not really concerned with being harassed if what I'm doing is legal though.
I used to do it in Washington all of the time, but Ft. Lewis was right there and a heavy mil presence. Cops wouldn't even look twice at you.

I'm down.

I looked at those. Not willing to spend the money when I have what I need.
Besides, it doesn't simulate having full battle rattle on.
I was mainly concerned on whether this crazy town had laws against wearing body armor lol. I wouldn't be surprised.

If you were down in CS, or even near Buckley AFB I would think no problems, but after that jerk at the Aurora theater, someone running down the street wearing "body armor"( as all the news outlets called a Tac. vest), you will get plenty of suspicious person calls to your local police.
Keep us informed after your first outing running down the street in Tac gear goes.

Bob is merely voicing subdued fantasies.
Remain calm

have you done it Bob? If not, this is not your place to give advice then.
OP: To make it easier on you if you do get any harassment from the bicyclists, leave the mags & knives off of it.

With everything that has happened in the past few months, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that running down the street in an urban area wearing Tactical Gear is not a very smart idea.
Now, out there in BFE Weld County, I'm sure the livestock and other barnyard critters could care less what you wore while running down the dirt roads.

I can already see the headlines... "Man in full tactical gear running from possible school massacre"

Again, if you have NO EXPERIENCE with this, then you are just talking out your ass so I'll clue you in. A guy doing PT in running gear with a vest on is not an indicator or red flag for police, especially if he really wants to make it obvious by wearing his reflective belt on his gear to let them know he is excercising and not running away from a scene. Do you honestly think the OP was going to wear full gear including ACU's, vest, boots, holster, helmet, etc... and go running like mad through the middle of the streets? I've run through downtown Ft. Collins, Loveland, Denver, and other cities across the country with my vest for various events as well as just doing PT without any issues.
Bob, do us all a favor and come back when you've acquired some sense and experience.

And just who the FUCK are you to tell me what to or not to voice my opinion on any subject ?
You do not know me or know my experiences.
And just what the hell got your panties in a bunch ? Did you miss your meds today ? Take a chill pill.

The OP asked for information on a subject from either experience of proof; not assumptions, speculation, or other forms of verbal diahrrea. You provided only the latter.
OP, sorry for the derail. Enjoy your runs!

I'd throw on a huge reflector vest (whatever size will fit over your gear) and that should be enough to let it be known you're not trying to storm the USPS.

Since July I have curtailed open carry and for the reasons mention by Bob.
Why bring unwanted attention. The anti or non-gun community are stupid and
freak out over nothing. The time is not the best of times to be drawing unwanted
attention to us right now. I can not see any positive outcome from some tool calling 911
because there is a man in tactical gear and possibly a fully automatic F/A 18 fighter plane strapped
to their back.
colofcw you are giving to much credit to the non gun community for not blowing this out of proportion.
I'm confused. Who the hell actually wants to exercise? [Coffee]

+1 bob was doing pt when the army was still passing out lucky strikes
Did it today.
a few people looked at me and waved.... a few looked and stared, but no cops.

Glad to hear that. Exact same response I get every time.
