View Full Version : Trouble shotting jams with a 74
I have a new Ak-74 I got a chance to shot it today. The first mag shot all 30 fine, but every reload after that had at least one but averaged about 3 jams every mag including reloading the first mag. I went through 6-8 mags and all but the first go jammed. This is a new gun and it is hard to think that it is the guns fault so I do believe it to be the 3 surplus Germen/Polish mags I have for it. Any Ideas of what I should do?

Try loading down 1 round your mags, before anything else.
Just a start as you didn't specify what type of "jam" you are experiencing. Failure to feed, eject, extract, double feed, stove pipe???

Possible Extractor issue, burr inside chamber, mag issue.

I'm having a similar issue with a 47 I built. I've thought it was an extractor issue, but wasn't sure.

Give us info, what receiver? Was it a flat build? Us barrel? Crome linned?

I believe it is a flat made by Iron Hammer Armory, Bulgie build, Us barrel and it is a crome lined, us piston, bulgie bult and spring. Any other Info?

Take the bolt all the way down and pay very close attention to the extractor for any issues spring might be clogged up with cosomoline or under the extractor. If it is doing it with all your mags I would say it not a mag problem. My guess would be the extractor is dirty or worn.

Also is the bolt carrier group striking the rear trunnion while cycling? Being extraction issues can happen if it's over gassed
It's your center support tube, it causes the receiver being too wide. Check how loose your bolt carrier is. With mag and dust cover removed try to push the bolt away from ejector while slowly cycling by hand. Inspect the gap between ejector and bolt.
Bring it over and ill look at all of the above
Thank you guys for the sugestions but this is my first and some of this is over my head so
Bring it over and ill look at all of the above
