Nice to see a Sheriff that understands 2A...

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. —
A local sheriff is vowing to boycott a supplier of police uniforms and equipment because of a controversial gun ban.

Channel 2's Eric Philips (http://www.wsbtv.com/staff/eric-philips/) went to Dana Safety Supply's Sugar Hill location Thursday to look into the new rules. The policy prevents the sale of semi-automatic or self-loading rifles to the general public. The company calls it a safety measure, but opponents in the gun rights community are speaking their minds.

"They made the decision not to sell a weapon like this to the general public. I've made the decision not to buy anything else from Dana Safety Supply," Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry told Philips.

Berry felt so strongly about the new policy he sent a letter telling the company he will no longer do business with them.

"I won't change my mind," he added.

The company is also catching heat from the public. Comments on its Facebook page included "Boycott Dana," and "Hope you go bankrupt, losers."

Company officials declined an on-camera interview but sent a statement saying in part, "While we support the rights of Americans to own and safely enjoy firearms, we have chosen to sell some select firearms to law enforcement personnel only. DSS remains dedicated to the safe and responsible sale of firearms.

The move comes on the heels of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut where a gunman used a semi-automatic rifle to kill students and teachers last month.

Berry argued, "The gun didn't cause a problem at Sandy Hook. A person did."

Furthermore, Berry said it doesn't make sense that the company will sell a lever action rifle to the public but not a self-loading rifle, when both can kill.

"I believe that law abiding citizens have the right to choose firearms, just like licensed drivers have the right to choose what kind of car they drive," Berry said.

He said he's received about 200 emails in support of his decision.

Reminds me of a little company called Barrett refusing to service California's SWAT teams because the state made the .50 cal (a gun never used in a crime in US history) illegal.

Edit: some on this forum kindly drew my attention to a crime committed in Colorado with a 50 bmg. My apologies for my ignorant statement above. Thank you to the gentlemen who corrected the error so kindly.

I am glad when the police stand up for their fellow civilians when they are being discriminated against.

Give it time. One day the evil intent elves will whisk it away to crime scene land, never to be legal again. My next one is coming with the optional DISABLE selector, just in case it starts to act by itself, like all those other ones have[facepalm]

This is a good thing, it shows statements such as Perlmutters when he said law enforcement associations are in favor of a ban are hollow statements.

Several other local Sheriff departments and at least 1 local Police department have joined in on the boycott to include my own Sherrif Neil Warren.
Being a small, Specialty store and with localized outlets the company is expected to relent or fold completely
Contracts are being cancelled and "Team Glock" (Smyrna, GA) is catching fire for sponsorship of DSS. Glock has not made any releases on this yet.

More as it becomes available

This simple act speaks volumes for these people, and shows that they have a better grasp on what the people in their communities want and expect than most of the politicians.

Both Sheriffs are (as are most in GA) well aware of the fact that the people have elected them to office and that they are responsible to the citizens for their protection in matters criminal, civil and constitutional.
Sheriff O and many Deputies are actually a contributing members on the Georgia Packing Forums.

Good. They are free to restrict sales to whomever they want and I am free to take my business elsewhere.

Sure hope Team Glock withdraws their support for them... I don't want to have to boycott Glock.

Better sell it before the masses find out.
