It looks like a mis-information and divide and conquer approach. Hunters, target shooters and sport shooters are somehow different than those that own an "assault weapon."

I'm thinking that there needs to be some type of a solidarity outreach program that would cast doubt on the whole appendix A " your guns are safe" division the bill is making amongst gun owners.

To be honest most FUDD's will gladly through us under the bus to save their bubba rifles. I am disgusted. I am ready to defend our rights. Who ever needed to bear arms against bambi?

I am a hunter of deer, elk, pronghorn and other edible mammals. I also own so called assault weapons. Most of those so called assault weapons would make good hunting rifles too. I hunted with a RRA Lar 8 on two tags this year. It was a blast and the rifle showed me that it was a fine alternative to the typical so called FUDD rifle. Personally I am sick of all the nonsense about so called assault rifles. Most of these anti AW people have no clue what a firearm is. All I can say is I have my own line in the sand if the moment ever comes. I will also say that I have never seen our Country so divided, these issues and others are just making things far worse, almost like people on the other side are gleefully happy about how they can rile us and feel empowered to takethings away important from our side. Very depressing, I certainly over the years have not rubbed my views in peoples faces.

The 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with hunting or "sport shooting".

...but this is a religious argument for the antis. Leave your facts at the door.

Another federal AWB is the least of our worries. Wait until you see the trunami of gun control laws when the state legislature is back in a couple of days :-(

CO state can move move quickly and there is not nearly as much resistance at our level than nationally. The Ds have the house, senate, and the governor's office. This will be bad.

We'll see how happy he is when all of his bolt actions are banned for being "sniper rifles". Hope he likes black powder hunting.

there is no "gun group"... this is beyond politics and group solidarity ect.

There are American Patriots and Anti-American Patriots.

That is it.

I surf a fair number of gun forums and each group (generally) is only worried about their own segment of the firearms dictionary. The 1911 crowd thinks they're safe as the mag ban is aimed at those that hold over 10rds, the double-gun group couldn't care any less about an AWB, Etc. If we are hoping for some sort of solidarity among firearms owners, we're fresh out of luck. I'd hazard a guess that well less than half the membership here has ever written their congressman/senator with concerns regarding 2A infringement.

If a ban goes through, I don't want to look back and wish I'd done more, I'm trying to do all I can and pushing the issue even on forums that have nothing to do with guns (forums I'm on dealing with fishing, boating, camping, climbing, Etc.). There is a lot of momentum on the side of the anti's right now, can you spare just 30 seconds to write your politician? -or is that commercial during the game on TV really too important to be bothered defending your rights...

All arms are protected as our natural rights. No matter the purpose or origin. I will defend all gun owners rights.

The fudds are hobbyists whose hobbies happen to involve things that are classified as guns. The 'gamers' in IPSC, etc... fall into a similar category. Neither of these 'gun owners' care any more about their rights than do the radio-controlled model airplane enthusiasts. Indeed, most hobbyists are quite reluctant to consider principles very deeply - ask an old biker about the acronym 'ABATE' after the hobby 'bikers' became the majority.

It is not, and has never been, about guns - it is about control. There really are 'two kinds of people in the world': those who want to run their own lives and those sick souls who need to run others' lives. The fight that is coming has nothing to do with guns as such, but rather guns as symbols and tools of self-sufficiency and, ultimately, Liberty. I really do not care what statute any legislative body illegally enacts; my life is my own.

Gun owners as a demographic have been better younger and more libertarian for a while now. The NRA is not the same NRA that was only able to negotiate a sunset to the '94 AWB...in many ways it is a much superior organization and continues to get better. There are also millions more gun owners - and a larger % of the population who are gun owners - out there.

Gun ownership crosses too many demographic and political lines (from hardcore anarchists to hardcore communists) to have much solidarity, but the freedom-loving, AR-owning, libertarianish demographic is bigger than it has been ever before. Jeff Cooper wrote a ton about the liberals playing "divide and conquer" back in his day, but I think it will be far harder for them to play it that way because the "tactical" rifle demo is a huge chunk of firearms owners. The ancient Fudd, with his bolt action rifle and suspicion of anything more modern than an '03 Springfield, is a dying breed (and I am grateful for that; sharing range space with them was irritating enough.)

We have to get all of us, all of our friends, all of our neighbors, to write letters to their legislator telling that legislator that they oppose new legislation, that they are "single issue" voters and won't forget.

If we work hard, we can turn this seeming opportunity for the gun control activists into their Last Stand.
