Hi Guys,
What's the best way to handle this? I found a rifle in another state. Is there a "safe" way to do this without getting ripped off? I don't see how I can make sure I get the gun if I send a USPS MO to this guy.

Thanks

Did you get it off of a site where the seller had some kind of feedback?

I did.

I have seen many guns I've wanted on Armslist out of state but decided against it after realizing it could be almost impossible to collect if they didn't ship the firearm. Good luck.

+1

I have ordered many things out of state where I had to send a mondey order but only using forums where there is feedback available, like here or snipershide.com. I would never do it from an armslist or craigslist style site.

If you use USPS money order and the guy doesn't ship, you report him for mail fraud to the postal inspector's service. That's a big reason some people insist on USPS MO, for the mail-fraud protection angle.

it's off armslist.
I think I'll see if he'll overnight it to Liberty Arms, once they verify delivery I'll pay him. I don't feel comfortable otherwise.

yeah, real crap shoot off sites like Armslist, gunsamerica and similar ones. Just make sure they have some feedback and hope you don't get ripped off. I bought some 5.56 ammo from someone on gunsamerica last week, sent the MO and got my UPS tracking number today.

Make him give you proof of address (USPS Delivery Confirmation) and then you have his address so you can pay him a visit if he screws you.

I know the legal requirements. I was asking for how not to get ripped off ;)

Trust and dumb luck, I reckon. I've bought two USGI M1 Carbines from strangers in other states, but they were both long established members on well-known gun forums. Both were flawless transactions. I used Bill Stark as my local FFL on both.

Postal MO. not sending afterwards is a federal crime that is taken very seriously. Also since you have their name and address just call the local PD and report it as well. I trade video games and movies online and have called the cops before. Even for 20 dollar DVD's it's always been handled.
