View Full Version : Today's Outage

Okay here is the short version of why we were down today.

I bought the domain names from company x. I had them set up to auto-renew every year. What I didn't know was that company x was really just a reseller for company y.

Company x and company y and an issue and company x was no longer an authorized reseller. Nobody ever told me there was an issue. I thought that everything was fine and the domain names would auto-renew like they do every year. Well I was wrong.

So today all the domain names expired. And nobody told me. And of course they did not renew. So the domains expired and we went down. I was out of town and didn't know until foxtrot told me. He had been told by 7idl and maybe others.

I was able to get in and get it fixed. We will now auto renew or should. In any case I registered the names for several more years so it should not be an issue for a while.

I'm sorry for the outage, and appreciate your patience. I now know why most people won't run websites for free. They really can be a lot of work.

But you guys are worth it! [Beer]

Not a bother. I'm still surprised this thing has lasted this long. I have lost track of how long I've been doing his now.

I just wish I understood how it was all done! The creation/operation of forums like this just mystifies me. I'd like to know how to create smileys too.

The heckuvit is, I work in Telecom. I work with huge routers and fiber optic transport stuff, maintaining it and connecting/disconnecting very large circuits, but I don't really understand how it works. We just call it FM, "Freakin' Magic"!

A long geeky post by the resident web guru:
...basically an address composed of numbers - to a nameserver (phonebook)...
I used to know what DNS was, but after reading this, I'm not so sure any more.[Whacko]

Oh, I know how to add them, I have a Photobucket sub-album with 5 pages of smilies. I'd like to know how to MAKE them myself, how to CREATE them. Obviously, it can't be too hard, since there's literally hundreds of different smilies out there.

Better late then never?

This morning company x sent me an email telling me that my payment was overdue. Then they sent me an email telling me that my payment was late and the grace period was about to expire. Hmmm....

Of course I logged in to company y's webpage and see we're all current and will be for a few years.

So better late then never? For who?
