Can you train an old dog?

Had two dogs for just about all of my life... One of them passed away after 14 good years (RIP Toberz). He was the alpha dog... He would beg for both of them, cuddle for both of them, etc. Now he's dead and my other dog is extremely vocal... and is used to just cleaning up after 13 years. (They're actual brothers same mom and dad from different litters) Anyways he's always been a really vocal dog when he disliked something, lots of whimpering and barking. Now I literally can't even eat a meal at home without him barking non stop for the whole meal... Tried it for 7 days and it's just not working... I don't want to get an e collar... He only has prob a few years left to live and I wouldn't want him to live them getting shocked for liking to be a vocal dog.

Is there any way I can train him to just shut up?

Seriously though, he never had to do the talking before. Talk to him, reassure him.
He is going through a readjustment period, he is alone and some separation anxiety is setting in. He misses his buddy.
He is lonely and bored as well, trying to call out to his buddy who is gone now.
He needs your love and hugs more than ever.
Take him on walks, keep him active. You need to be his buddy now, to fill the pawprints of the one gone.
The wife suggested a "Thundershirt" a snug fitting shirt that does wonders for calming a dog that has anxieties such as fireworks, car travel etc.
Let things settle a bit and a companion in the form of a pup may work wonders.

Luckily he doesn't do either of those oddly. Tobz was the humper... I'd bring over female friends and he would be like YEAHHHHHHH GET IT GET IT lol

Your dog is seeking another companion. Either take him to the dog park in your area a lot OR consider adopting another dog from one of the many rescue's in CO.

I'm open to adopting another dog... But in all honesty they've been house dogs for all of their life. They don't know other dogs other then the neighbors dogs... I just don't know how things would pan out... I don't want a dog fight but I would like another dog.

We went through the same thing with our last 2 dogs like book ends one went then the other 2 months later. Flash forward to last year we rescued a dog then got her a companion 2 months ago. Little scuffles here and there, however as long as you are the alpha they will obey you and or the spouse.
One of the nice things about most rescues is you get a 7 day trial period up to 2 weeks to see how things work out.
