The Douglas Co. Sheriff only accepts application Tuesday - Thursday. They open at 9am and process until 4pm unless they get a large number of applicants that day and they cut off early.
I got there at 1030 and there were 14 names ahead of me. They estimate 15 minutes per applicant so I was looking at a 3 1/2 hour wait. I signed in and went to lunch at Blackeyed Peas (don't bother). I returned at 1145 and almost exactly an hour later they called my name at 1245. By 1pm I was in the car driving home.
I was told to expect a full 90 days wait. They have had 150 new applicants in the last eight days of accepting applications. All 14 of the people ahead of me were new applicants.

Awesome thanks. I'm heading up there next week hopefully.
I'm heading down next week. Any updates? Thanks
I know someone who submitted it with them in January took 8 weeks one day. 4 hour wait to submit it

I filed my renewal over Christmas break.
Still waiting to hear. This Sunday is over 90 days for me, hopefully I get a call next week at the latest!

I ended up going march 5th and I waited for about an hour. They said the rush was slowing down, and that i should expect 90 days. When I got my picture taken the lady said that it probably wont take 90 days but they are saying that as a worse case scenario. Ill keep you updated as to when I get my call.
Why does it take longer than a background check? Printing a card and laminating it takes longer than a background check.

I applied 8 Jan, it too 3 hours. It was approved on 22 March. I picked it up on 26 March, it took 5 minutes. A friend went there two days ago and the application only took 20 minutes, three people in from of him.
I went yesterday, less than 30 minutes. But I do know where the ammo is. While waiting, they pulled out a wagon that had at least 30 boxes of .223 Federal ammo.
Deputy Bob still there? Nice guy.

Got to Castle Rock Justice Center at 8:30. Had to walk back out to my truck because I forgot the Kershaw clipped in my pocket. Walked into the Sheriff's office at about 8:40 and was second on the list but I think the guy in front of me was there for something else. Karen called me about 8:50 and I gave her my application and copies of DL and CCW class certificate, but she requested to see originals of both. A few minutes before 9:00 I was called up for pics and prints and was out of there shortly after 9:00. Deputy Bob was there and was going to fingerprint me but his scanner was on the fritz. While he was messing with it and trying to get someone from IT to come fix it, Karen took me to another scanner and I was done. I wish I'd known he was a John Deere guy, I would have wound his clock a little. Karen said it was really busy the day before, but couldn't have gone much quicker for me. She said to expect about 6 weeks. Your mileage may vary.

I just received my permit yesterday. Only had to wait 3 1/2 weeks. I went in on a Wednesday afternoon around 12:30 and I was only there for a total of 30 minutes. That was with 2 people ahead of me as well.

Things are loosening up. I got the call today and it is just over three weeks. When I picked it up today, there were only 3 guys in the waiting room. If you are going to do it, now would be a good time. Bob said when I went in three weeks ago that he had done something like 60 applications in one day the week before.

In and out in under 30 minutes this am to submit paperwork for renewal. Just need to wait for the new permit.
I went to DougCo to renew today. Walked in around 1:30 and had the place to myself.
Even had time to mess around trying to email a copy of my DD214 to the clerk to prove Veteran status. Spurlock waives the $50 Sheriff's fee now if you show proof of service.
Sadly, I was an idiot for not watching the dates closer and had to surrender my expired permit and have to wait 4 weeks again now. I had convinced myself that i picked it up after returning from a thanksgiving trip. The problem with that is the date of issue is the APPLICATION date.
I was stalling because I was trying to get the wife to bring home her damn training cert so we could go together and she could apply while I was there with her.
