Please excuse a noobe question. I purchased an AR kit with an 80% lower receiver and I'm looking for anyone local (Denver area) who has the equipment and know-how to help me. The company I purchased from hosts "build parties," however they are located in Kalifornia. Having left that state to move here (best decision I ever made!) I have no intention of going back there if I can help it. Any input is greatly appreciated...thanks in advance!
I ordered a couple from the company you did. Not sure how long it will take to get mine, but perhaps if we can get our own "Build Party" together. A couple other persons with whom I work with also ordered one as well. We are just waiting for our orders to be fulfilled.

That sounds great! I may have a lead on a local machine shop we could use. The owner is a good friend of a friend of mine. I placed my order this past Monday...called them yesterday to let them know the payment (money order) should be there on Friday. The guy told me the estimated delivery date was mid-March. Given the current situation I can live with that.
I am not too far ahead of you I think probably by a week or two. Lets keep in touch and see how it goes! You think he would accept a case of his favorite beverage for the use of his space? :-D

I'm not sure...but I'm certain a case of his favorite beverage would certainly help... [Beer]
As soon as I get more info I'll let you know!
Interested here, as well. Eventually (someday) my Ares 80% lower should arrive and for sure, I'm interested in this as well. If they can do it over there in California, we can certainly do it here!
I got most of the tools for assembling an AR for my build that I just completed. Spent a butt load on tools, vise blocks, etc just for mine. You are welcome to use my work bench and tools in exchange for Pmags! Seriously, I only have one mag. If you need any machine work or TIG welding done, I can so that too. PM me if you guys are interested. Just want to give back to this community and hopefully make some friends.

I have one on order now as well. I also have the jig.
Now I'm curious... Are there registration steps that need to be taken when you finish milling the Ares 80?

there is NO REGISTRATION ON GUNS IN CO, NONE. Stop using the #$%^ term on this board.

You have to list the date you completed it, a serial number you made up, your name and address, your birth day (not date), and a statement you can legally possess a firearm on organic unbleached paper. Next you must thoroughly wet it with hot bacon grease, let it cool, then entrust it to your best friend (your dog) for safe keeping. You can borrow a best friend if you don't have one currently.
Seriously, as Jim said above, there are no laws requiring registering a homemade gun in Colorado or at the federal level right now. You don't have to put any markings on them either. Except the way I read it the cartridge chambering must be marked on the gun. That can be on the barrel, it doesn't have to be on the receiver.
Have a Good Day.

Well that escalated quickly...[coffee]
Had I known that I can fashion a ballistics chunker out of sticks and glue and not tell anyone... Ida done it a while ago. (Maybe not, but f^#* punkin' chunk in')
Just another quick (prob ignorant) question... Are there caliber restrictions? (can I build a Sherman tank?) or do I have to abide by all of the normal civilian rules? (Sbr, class3)
-signed, just curious

No escalation only refuting what you and others seem to think are "requirements" In Co regarding firearms. The caliber restrictions would be governed by what magazine you are able to lock in the mag well. So an ar will accomodate, 5.7,. 223/5.56, 7.62x39, 5.45x39 . 300 blk, 410 etc

Hi Everyone-
im new here as well and was considering ordering a 80% complete lower. If it's still possible. Was anyone able to locate a machine shop that will help in the completion of the lower, here in Colorado? Thanks for any help.
steve
I would be in for one of these as well - this is what has always kept me from buying an 80%, because I know I'm too lazy to find anyone with a machine shop to cut it out correctly.

I have 5 Billet80 lowers on order and should arrive within about 2 weeks. May be looking for a build party also. Rumor has it that a friend of a friend owns a shop that we can use but don't know for sure yet.
Roger
Still waiting on mine to get in... But I'm not surprized.
I've got 2 Billet80s that shipped today. And a jig. Where's the party?
Still waiting for mine. I ordered mine around the time RevTracy did from the same manufacturer. Probably around April I guess.

I think my 5 billet80's shipped on Friday. I also ordered the jig. Hope to receive this next week and then a quick trip to engraver before trying to do machining.
Roger
Got mine from Ares Armor out in CA, maybe it will give you an excuse to catch a flight out there. ( Honestly its probably the only excuse you'll ever have to visit Kalifornia.

That's where I ordered mine from.

That's where mine is coming from, too...eventually. Last time I communicated with a sales rep he told me I probably won't see mine until mid-May. I did manage to order a couple of 30-round mags from Magpul. Now if I could only get some ammo... [facepalm]
Sad days, I think I ordered just a little bit ahead of you by like a week or so i I remember.
