So I have a buddy who just started an online knife company and I have had a chance to play around with some knives lately. I'm a fixed blade kinda guy and picky when it comes to gimmicky folders, but I have to say I really am enjoying this spyderco endura wave. At first I didn't care for it because the way the pocket clip is set from the factory. It has you draw to the rear of your pocket (given you're a righty like me). This posed a few problems for me: I don't like the idea of drawing to the rear, drawing to the rear makes it difficult to draw successfully when you are on your back or sitting, also when I drew that way I ended up with my thumb and index finger pinching the handle about halfway down and having to readjust my grip. Fortunately you can change the position of the clip. I put it on the other side and this made a huge difference for me. It draws very reliably forward, even straight up actually. It is REALLY fast into a perfect pikal grip (reverse grip edge out) this way. I find the wave feature to be extremely realiable, catching my pocket pretty much every time. Other observations...I like the VG10 steel, nice and sharp and good edge retention. Handle is so so, kinda plasticy feeling but decently grippy, feels light in your pocket though which is good. I like lockbacks and this one locks up nice and tight. Now for the pics:

That knife would be useless for gutting an elk.[ROFL1]

If anybody forces me into a situation I have to pull a weapon it sure as hell won't be a knife.

Thats just me. [Coffee]

Let me clarify that I am not recommending a knife over a firearm for SD. I always carry blade for day to day stuff, and I like training with them because it's fun and...well...you never know. I am also not recommending this knife for gutting elk, but it gutted the crap out of some mail I got the other day...

I carry both a pistol, folder and a fixed blade. I read last month's SWAT magazine about MMA fighters and the threat they posed. I bought 6 small fixed blades to give to LEO buddies of mine.

I collect knives like I get guns...just something about them that makes me want more. I have a entire bag full doing nothing, but every time I find one I like, I buy it and put it in the bag.

I carry a stainless Endura on my weak side for a back up. If somebody goes for my gun, it leaves my strong arm to hold on to them and my weak hand to cut through their bicep.

Good to know-next time we're at the range together I'll remember this so I shoot ya before I get too close. [Beer]
