View Full Version : Anybody want to go shooting tomorow?
I don't know where to go. I don't think the snow is gone at harris park yet. I am never going to cherry creek again and everywhere else I have been is members only. Anybody know where I can go that isnt too hard to find? And does anyone care to join me?
I just joined up at the Ben Lomond Gun Club out by Kiowa, but haven't actually been there yet. Hope to go this weekend, and I hope it's a good place!
I've never been to Cherry Creek, I've wanted to go look it over, but I ain't paying the park fee just to get in and check it out. How come you're not going back?
Where are you located at?
I went shooting today at the North Site, was soooo much fun. My first time shooting outdoors and i'm hooked. Flurries most of the day (heavier at times) and pretty windy. Damn forecast was wrong, but it was still a good day of shooting. We were the only ones there, plus a fella collecting brass for the entire ~3 hours we were there. Didn't talk to him much, but he said he was local.
Cherry creek isnt very laid back. They are very pushy and ask you every cease fire if you are leaving so they can get you out of there. They come by and sweep your brass so I had to keep stopping to grab my brass and tell them to leave my brass. Also they won't let you collect any brass that flies out the shooting window. You have to lay your cased guns in the windo before uncasing them. It was pretty rediculous. I am all about following rules and safety but I just didnt like that place. I lost about 150 pieces of .308 brass and didnt even break out the ars because I didnt want to lose my .223 brass. It was $7 to get in the park and $13 to shoot. How much is the club you joined and how far from the metro area?

How do you get there?

I-25 North. Off at Exit 243/CO-66. Head west into Lyons, make a left onto CO-7. Drive up 14 miles until you hit CO-72, and park across the road from the call box (about 200 yards East of CO-72). Walk right into the clearing and shoot.
What time are you going? I didn't shoot all my ammo today i had planned on, so i might be willing to head up again. I'm not driving again though, about 50 miles from me, and i'm near 120th/I25 :D

I was thinking maybe leaving here around nine or ten in the morning. I have a jeep cherokee. So is this place in the moutains or what? I am in lakewood so I would have to take sixth to get to 25. I can pick you up.

It's at 8300ft i believe, the foothills. I'm not even sure what the weather is for tomorrow. I posted some info about it in this forum just a bit ago. We had the place to ourselves today, but then again it was Friday. Bring a table and chair plus your target stand.
From 6th and I25, you'll have a haul. What are you looking to shoot? After shooting there today, i don't think i'll go to an indoor range again (winter only). It is a drive unless you plan on throwing a decent amount or lead down range. We shot about 450 rounds today which made it worth while, we were there a few hours despite the snow and wind. I don't want to recommend you going up there unless you plan to spend a bit of time. I shot my new AR (first time shooting it) and my trusty G19. It was a blast, are you planning to head up there alone, or do you have some buddies to go with?
Oh don't worry when I shoot I shoot. I was gonna bring out a few ars and the m1a. Maybe the .22 and a pistol or two. I might bring some buddies. I don't mind the drive if it isnt too too far. I am actually at about colfax and sixth. Youi shot 450 rounds. Do you reload your brass?
If you want give me a call tonight. 757-373-1426

Nope, just collect it for now.
Wish i had a .22 today, could spend hours out there with that :D Which reminds me i need to bring my .22 rifle back here next time i drive out to CA.
It's a bit of a drive, but nothing to bad. If you're going to spend a bit of time there it's well worth the drive. I'm still very new to AR's (shot it today for the first time) and i had a blast, so i am easily amused [ROFL2]
If you can't find anyone to go let me know and i might be up for another trip. Lady doesn't want to do anything tomorrow, so my day is pretty open.

I have had nothing but good to say about their range because it is run in such a safe manner and is a lot more comfortable atmosphere than some of the so called open places I've tried (where safety is not existent)but that's just my .02
Yeah safety is definetly key but I just didnt like the close quarters and tense atmosphere.

After you go there a few hundred times they will start to remember you and be much more easy going with you.

The mexican guy running the line was super nice I just didnt like the whole experience. I prefer the nice drive through the mountains and shooting in the public areas rather than drive through denver traffic and pay $20
I cuncur, Cherry Creek sucks..... I was asked to leave about a week ago. I played all their range rules, but when the clown of an RSO reached into my gun case and grabbed my rifle I advised him if he touched my weapon again I would throw him a good beating... He said he was verifying the chamber was empty. Keep in mind I'm retired Military as well as a certified small arms and CQB Instructor, the bolt was locked open with a chamber empty indicator installed. So not only are they over charging but happen to be a bunch of anal retentive wanna be gunners. But, that's just my opinnion.

If you go to the North Site, it is in the mountains and does not abide by the weather forecast. Your best bet is to go after 10-11 am so you can see what is going on.
