Anyone else receive a PM from this guy ? No introduction post,0 posts, and of course no feedback.
I also got one from another member here but I'd replied to his thread and expressed an interest if he did trusts.

NFA Trust
I noticed in a thread that you are looking for someone to do an NFA Trust. I've been doing them for about 6 months now and have automated the process to the point where my turnaround is counted in hours rather than days or weeks.

I charge $300. If you send an email to: NFATrust@WoodardLaw.com, you'll receive an automated response with more information and a link to download the questionnaire to get the process started.

Thanks,

First I hear of it. Hasn't ask me if he could.

First thing I do is check the domain associated with the email. In this case woodardlaw.com goes nowhere. Seems shady to me.

My 2 cents.

Everything about this the page not working, no CO bar association membership, etc. Screams run the other way until I saw this thread then it seems legit... Look at this thread.

i looked him up. he is local, he is a real person. he is probably just trying to drum up business. his website doesnt work, however you can have your email through your website without paying for hosting. he is probably legit, just a small business. he is into airplanes and on other forums.

I've never heard of him either

Agreed.

But when paying for legal services that pertain to documents scrutinized by BATFE, I'd be more convinced by a firm whose web presence exceeds that of the local back alley pharmaceutical purveyor.

Quite a few people on here have used him. Myself included.

If he's legit, then it might be a good opportunity to "coach" him on becoming a more social member of the board so that he can get a reputation.

Just sent him an email with that advice. :)

I agree with this. Having 2A friendly lawyers around at all levels of expertise is never a bad idea. There are new people here that want and need legal advice all the time. I am sure that he just found the thread through one of his contacts and decided to make an account to contact them real quick.

Hello Colorado AR-15 Shooters

One of the members alerted me to this thread and suggested that I should probably join in. Thanks very much to this member!

First, before I say anything else, let me apologize if I’ve offended anyone with the PM I sent to 4-5 members. I didn’t mean it as spam and I only sent it to those who specifically indicated they were looking for someone to create an NFA Trust.

I’m a real person and have been licensed to practice law in Colorado since 1995. I have never had any complaints filed against me and am in good standing with the Colorado Supreme Court’s office of Attorney Registration. My bar registration number is 25545. This all public information. My record is available at the following URL: http://www.coloradosupremecourt.com/Search/Attdet.asp?Reg=25545

As someone mentioned, my email address works, but my website is currently out of service. I’m not much of a webmaster and managed to allow my website to be hacked by someone intent on spreading some sort of malware. After months of wrangling with it to no avail, I finally just wiped it all clean. I would like to get it up and running again, but it hasn’t been a priority. As you might guess, I’ve been pretty busy playing lawyer lately and it hasn’t been a priority to learn how to be a better webmaster.

I’ve been doing general estate planning my entire legal career. I’ve also been involved in helping people start businesses and buy and sell other businesses. In the last 18 months or so, I’ve helped several friends get started as gun dealers. One of my friends recently became a Class III dealer. At his urging, about a year ago I started researching the concept of NFA Trusts. As anyone who’s done it knows, it’s tough to get into a specialty while maintaining an ongoing business and keeping food on the table.

About 6 months ago, I did kind of a ‘soft rollout’ of my services. Since then, my business has expanded almost 100% each month! I do no advertising so all my business is word of mouth. I’m pretty certain the events of last November and the impending gun legislation have pushed things along.

As others have guessed, I AM a one-man operation. I’m pretty content with my situation right now as I have experienced the other end of this spectrum. Having employees and an office building is stressful and really takes the ‘fun’ out of working for yourself. At this point, I’m content to earn an average living and enjoy my life. I’m not married and I have no children so nobody’s counting on me for support or a big inheritance!

To this end, I have many hobbies. I constantly find myself trying to balance work and play. It seems if I have enough time to pursue all my hobbies, then I quickly wind up with a lack of money to actually SUPPORT all those hobbies. Maybe I’ll find a balance before I die... and maybe not!

As someone discovered, I’m into little airplanes. I purchased a Midget Mustang about 9 years ago for $13,000. It needed a bunch of work and I probably put another $20K into it. I’m not a high-dollar airplane owner, in other words! I haven’t flown it since last July because it needs some work and I’ve been too busy to do it! Another one of those balance things, I guess.

I live in a modest house and drive a Honda Accord so that there’s enough money left over for my hobbies. Of course another of my hobbies is shooting. I don’t currently own any NFA items, but I’ve got my eye on several pieces. I own a bunch of handguns and a couple of long guns. I’m not a bad shot, but there’s always room for improvement. I was born in eastern Kansas and have been shooting since I was very young. I got my first pheasant with my grandma’s single-shot 410 when I was about 10 years old. She used to keep it in the broom closet next to the back door at their farm house in Garden City, KS. I inherited that ratty old 410 when my grandparents passed, btw. It’s worth very little to anyone but me, I’m sure.

So, if anyone wants a Gun Trust, I’m happy to help. I’ve automated the system such that I can offer speedy service at a reasonable price. I don’t sell using scare tactics. Yes, it’s possible to do it yourself, but this can be said of many things that people pay others to do. I have to admit, I change my own oil and do most of my own car maintenance.

Any attorney will tell you that it’s a bit risky for an attorney to answer questions in a public forum. People tend to take things out of context and head out in the wrong direction based on an answer to somebody else’s question and then the attorney finds himself getting sued for malpractice. I know that lawyers have a terrible reputation. I’m trying my best to not be ‘that guy.’ While I’ll be pretty quiet with regard to answering questions in the public forum, I’m sure several of the members will tell you all that I’m VERY generous about answering questions and VERY quick to respond once you become my client.

Thanks for reading this long post.

He he, you said FIRM. http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs8/i/2005/318/2/d/Beavis_and_Butthead_by_Levymetal.gif

Smells funny. If he is a legitimate lawyer/business, why is he spamming a site and using bad links?

Thanks Rod for posting with some background info.

Did you read what I wrote right before you? He's legit.

The main point is:

It is against the site rules here to promote a commercial business without prior approval. None of the staff knew about this.

Per the rules, he should have been banned, but luckily the rest of the herd-o'-cats was NOT putting the staff in a bad mood this morning.

NFATrustGuy, I might suggest sending a PM to the site owner, Marlin, to set this right and figure out how to proceed.

Glad to hear he is legit but the OP's PM looks like spam. Just my perception.

I agree that he should not have "back doored" the process. However, with that said
If things do get ugly this may be a good guy to have around.

Hopefully Marlin does not go too hard on him.

I've exchanged PMs with Marlin and I think we're good. I also posted a hello in the new members forum. At Marlin's suggestion, I may post something in the non-firearm member business forum in a few days.
