I remember when I was a kid being shown the old black and white film about what to do in case of a nuclear attack. You just get under your wooden desk at school to protect you from the nuclear fireball. The teacher's burning alive while being slammed up against the chalk board, but the kids were safe under their kindling. Duck and cover kids, duck and cover.

Let's see, the distance from me to Peterson, divided by the speed of light in air at this elevation, and then compared to the response time of an auto-darkening welding helmet (1/25000 second)...
Nope, I'll never see it coming :)

I find it interesting that when I opened the website the pipper was on lower Manhattan...is THAT where Bloomberg's office is? [Muaha]
Ran a couple through the "Fed Center" scenario, Nice suntan to complete vaporization. Cool.

Nice BDUs bro!
lol, I was rocken the BDU's up until the summer when it was maditory for ABU's. I didn't mind polishing boots, and they were a heck of a lot more comfortable than first gen ABU's

Me too brother, me too. Loved the ripstop summer weight BDUs. Everything looked a lot better too.
Glad I live "just far enough" away from longmont if a Trident hits I'm alllllll good.

And if by "allllll good" you mean you will die a slow and painful death from fallout a few weeks or months after everyone else, then sure!

Assuming I can't quickly locate a building that could be a good fallout shelter. Yes. But I've already taken this step, so unless someones in it or it's blocked. ALLLLLLLLLLLLL GOOD.
The smallest one at Colfax and Lincoln looks pretty good. Anybody got one? It might be available on some obscure NFA form.

well, I'm getting burned.
Looks like I am getting blowed up.
I'm nice and safe down here in canon city unless they use one of the top 4 or 5. even then I had an uncle who worked up there told me that if that happened it'd be moderately unlikely anything would hit us down here in canon because of wind patterns and the several ranges between us and springs.

Plutonium from a nuclear weapons accident killed my Dad. Took 40 years to do it, he died of multiple myeloma. I remember the beta burns on his arms. The warhead didn't even explode, the missile exploded and breached the warhead. Scattered bomb material all over the island...

Just ran across this today.. was gonna share, but sure enough it's already been posted up. Thought Id bring it back in case anybody hadnt seen it.. very interesting website.
and btw, I had NO idea about the B52 that came apart over NC and how close we got to an accidental H-bomb detonation (saw that because of one of the options for the bombs you can select). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1961_Goldsboro_B-52_crash

I doubt it had a chance to Detonate to produce a nuclear blast, there would have been redundant safety features that would have prevented it.

Hey, I learned LONG AGO that duck and cover would save my sorry arse. Apparently those 50's-60's elementary school desks were substantial!!! Never mind that an entire wall of the classroom was made of glass. And not the kind that crumbles into harmless nuggets.
Then, in the USCG in the '70's, I learned in my NBC Warfare classes with the USN, that stabbing myself in the thigh with a tiny device, and taking a shower, in addition to tucking my pants into my socks, would save me from the ravages of Nuclear, chemical, and biological threats. And now they think I'll be afraid of zombies, seriously?

What is going to kill the most people is radionuclides, when you eat it, drink it or breath it in. The time frame is from 1 day to 40 years. The explosion does a lot of immediate damage, but the fallout will kill long after the blast. If you survive the initial blast effects, you will need a good gas mask and a way to escape the area. If it was a neutron bomb and you are near the blast, you will probably die that week. To survive after the explosion, you need a gas mask, a geiger counter & sealed food and water sources. Then you have to move to a non radioactive location. I don't think there is a safe place in Colorado. We have too many command centers and nuclear missiles in silos. The weather will spread the fallout everywhere. Best evacuation bet is a non-nuclear state south of the border.

Didn't very few people actually die from Chernobyl?
I don't know why you guys are worried. Everyone knows that it won't be nukes that hit Colorado. We'll be invaded by Russian Mexicano Cubans who will parachute into our small towns to seize our 4473 forms.

I found it scary that apparently up until something like 1979 or so, the "secret launch code" to the missiles was something like 11111111.
BushMasterBoy
02-26-2015, 15:48
Yeah if the missile silos were cutoff from the rest of the world, the "fail safe" launch code was "000000000". I was in Little Rock, Arkansas when this happened! I watched it explode live on TV...

My dad (AF) was an electronics tech for Titan II silos. Primary specialty was launch control/modules. I wonder if he ever had a little theoretical voice on his shoulder saying "dood, you could totally start WWIII all by yourself"... I've never asked that question though, lol.
Kinda crazy when you think about it.... that potentially one guy could do it. hahaa
