How the #$% are you going to sleep for 2 years and not have beard down to your nuts?

Just an observation...

Same way that in some of these movies they almost never need to reload...movie magic.

But I like "David probably creepily shaved everybody." better...don't want to know what else he did...

Ha ha, nice. Yeah I was really excited for that movie. Kind of a let down IMHO.

So it could have stopped hair growth then?

IMHO when a movie gets this far into sequels, or prequels, they start sucking big time. Case and point the new Resident Evil, dont waste your time. But I did enjoy Prometheus!

Couldn't agree more. This was unlike any other space type movie that has come out in years, truly well done in my opinion.

I also agree with the Resident Evil Retribution sucking, there was no plot and I was really disappointed in it.

I was fairly happy with Prometheus. Good special effects, and it did a decent job of filling in the details that Alien needed to make the story make more sense...if that really matters in a sci-fi movie.

There's going to be a sequel that apparently connects more of the dots to Alien.

I just recently watched this. I found it pretty good and I'm kinda of a movie critic. I still don't understand the beginning with the alien drinking that weird stuff and him disentegrating? What was the purpose of that? Did he sacrifice himself and drink that "koolaid" to create the DNA for humans?

Not stopped, but the rate of hair growth would be proportional to all the other body processes. Say if their heart beat only once a minute (instead of 80 beats/minute) then hair growth would have slowed by a factor of about 80, and so on. This reminds me of the scientific unit "beard-seconds".. The human beard supposedly grows at a rate of 10 nanometers per second..

Maybe they just apply shaving powder before going to sleep????

Yes, and this is why I was so excited to see Prometheus... Ridley Scott is one of the few Hollyweird whackjobs I don't hate. I can't wait until more details are released on the sequel. Last I heard Scott said that this was the first of two, possibly three, prequels to the original Alien.

I'm going to go against the grain and say Prometheus sucked. I went into it without any research and didn't even realize it was a prequel until well into the movie.

Now come on, it was almost a duplicate of Alien, if you didn't know it was a prequel it was a rip-off of the original. How often is the robotic life form you brought with you just there to screw you?

Aliens... He saved them. I can see where you think it's a rip-off or what have you, but then again, everything now a days is a rip off of the classic hero story arc. [Coffee]

Agreed but when a director is ripping off his own movie and calling it a prequel it's kind of sad.

I'm a huge Alien, Predator, and Sci-Fi movie fan..

So you think if they were asleep that long they'd have long beards? But you believe we have the technology to travel to distance stars that take millions of light years and can live that long??? ;) Just sayin' there is this thing called "suspense of disbelief" when you watch certain genres of movies. Sci-fi being one of them.

Initially it was a let-down to me. I saw the first Alien movie in theaters back in '79 and was in awe. Not really the story I though Ridley Scott was going to tell. A bunch of my other "geek" friends saw it and we discussed. Afterwards I had a greater appreciation for it. Prometheus was actually pretty deep...

I would suggest either picking up or borrowing the version that has the commentary... They explain alot of things...

I'll be interested to see how they tie the next one or two to the beginning of the original. They have designed quite the little gap in there.

I've never quite figured out the folks who are so hung up on details. It's a movie, it's for entertainment, not to function as a documentary. I do understand the desire for realism; but there are some functional limits on what you can do with a movie and still have it be something people want to watch and be entertaining. You have to expect the magic guns that never need to be reloaded (or only every 500 rounds) or the aircraft that have impossible things built into them in some of these; I've noticed that it seems like the only ones where you see them reload are the ones where the reload is used to some effect for the storyline.

Here's an interesting little write up on prometheus. Explains a lot of what Riddley Scott was trying to say.

Alien has nothing to do with Predator as originally conceived (two different studios, rights, etc), those horrible movies where based on comic books. It is rumored that the the Weyland is tied into Bladerunner.

Prometheus looked really good, but it takes a lot to ignore the complete Swiss cheese of unbelievable or contradictory plot holes. A noticeable number of the characters are just plain stupid.

I believe the theory is that the passengers are in suspended animation so their biological processes slow down, including hair growth. They'd have to be fed intravenously or something if the processes didn't slow down, in which case they'd also have to take care of the waste.

The first page cracked me up, along with the random quotes throughout. I enjoyed the film, mostly for the beginning and ending. Use of "Hollywierd" was my favorite word in this thread. I will use it from now on. Thank you. the end.

Loved it, especially on huge iMax 3D w/ sick booming sound system from hell. Tons of eye candy, sick CG, but of course the plot had HUGE holes, and the story left you too little in the end. I understand setting up the sequel to this, but they need to make also be able to somewhat stand on it's own, PLUS put in a tiny bit to connect to a sequel. For those of you with more questions than answers, and if you really wanna geek out, here's some good sites that blew up after it came out. LOT of confused (and some pissed off) people, especially die-hard sci-fi, RidleyScott, & Alien franchise fans...
