I have decided to finally get a 1911. I have decided on the kimber TLE II. I have heard good things about compensators for them but at the same time, do i really need one just to shoot occasionally. Also i would like some nice grips any suggestions. not real particular about any specific design or anything just something that would look nice on it. well please let me know your thoughts.

I'd skip the compensator if you're planning on doing anything besides static square-range stuff. If you shoot from retention/"rock-and-lock"/pectoral index, a compensator blows the gases right into your face.

I used to own a TLE II, and to be honest, it didn't need the help. Not with the recoil, anyway.

Definitely no need for a compensator, and I just gotta say it... TLE II is the worst 1911 I've ever owned. I know a lot of guys that love their Kimbers, but mine never ran right, even after a trip back to Yonkers. I took a bath on that one.

Just my opinion, but I'd save up a little more and get a Dan Wesson, a TRP from Springfield or even a Les Baer. It will be worth it.

Comps are really best for things like Open IPSC or Steel Challenge and work better with higher pressure guns rather than .45 ACP.

That said, Kimber used to make a great pistol. Used to. Nowadays, I've seen too much QC problems first hand. Wouldn't pay their prices for one.
