ok well about 2 years ago i had a gun safe stolen from my home in longmont. well yeah they got every damn gun i owned[Mad] it was kind of my fault for not having the safe bolted down, i assumed it was to heavy to move with every thing in side of it . the police did find the safe with the top cut off and all the contents removed. they also got my reloading stuff, witch i need to replace when i get moved, if any one knows of a good deal there it would be nice.
so my question is this, what kind of safe is a good safe? i know i do not want a stack on, but i can not afford a $1000 safe either. i have about $400 to spend and i want to get something that will be big enough so all my guns are not cramped and getting scratched every time i pull one out. digital key pad or a regular combination? also is there any where i should look in to when i get moved down to the springs in 2 weeks for a safe? is there a better brand than another one, like pro vault vs remington. i know $400 is not much to buy protection for my guns but i did just buy a house and am getting ready to pay for a move.
thanks, cant wait to get move out there...
ps/ not sure where this tread should go.

There's a cool function on this forum called search or advanced search. There's more than enough info to answer your question.
Search is your friend. [2cents]

Wow what kind of safe did you have that they were able to move entire contents of??
Find a safe that has non exposed hinges and as many dead bolts as possible. Again those are just deterants and if someone had enough time to carry your safe out they will get into the safe.
People will prob cringe when I say this buy find a place that will finance your safe purchase interest free. Dicks and sports authority have ok safes and you can get 10% off if you open a card from them.

also to add, i think that with 33,825 or so threads i dont think there is a new topic to cover or at least it would be rare to find a new question...
I'd look for a good used one, maybe you could find a better one that way.,.

With the mandatory "Use the Search Function" out of the way, What are your firearms worth to you ?
If you are only willing to spend $400 on a safe, well you will get what you pay for in protection. It would be like buying liability only insurance for a new car.
Forego a firearm purchase or two and get the best safe you can find. I am not talking just price, but I am meaning quality, look at the specifications and buy quality. And properly install it.
A properly installed smaller quality safe will protect your firearms far better than a large cheap unbolted safe.
If I could get one of the safes that Opie011 sells in the trading post on occasion into my basement, I would have one of them.

if you buy a safe that only costs 400, I guarantee me and another guy could carry it and all your guns out. for that price you are getting junk. no matter what anyone tells you. it will not secure your guns from thieves. it wont slow down a thief. they are a joke.
if you want to delude yourself into thinking they are safe, then by all means get a 400 "safe". for that price they arent even as strong as truck toolbox.
get insurance on your guns.
and use the damn search, the forum is junked up with threads from people who wont use the search.

a safe around 15 guns would work.

The last one he posted up weighed in at 2700#.
And double the capacity you think you need, or you will need another one within a year.
