Interesting to see the NRA with a reason for optimism. Hopefully, on a local level, CO state will have trouble following the California model.

Look for the state legislature to ram through something on the Denver AWB model. it has withstood two court challenges, our state constitution not withstanding.

This is my biggest fear. The national ban is defeated or dropped and the state battle (Colorado and others ) is lost. I really like to hear something from the NRA, RMGO, NGRA or someone else just to know that we're still in the fight.

hopefully you guys are re-upping your RMGO membership or tossing a few bucks their way. the NRA will try to help locally I'm sure, but RMGO is our dog in the fight.

There is something that really muddies things up at a Federal level.

Heller v DC

We have the right to arms "That are in common usage".
A "class" of firearm may not be banned.

The interpretation arguments of the 2cnd have pretty well run their course. The .gov really does not have anything supporting a ban.
However a caviat-Heller did open up "regulation" and lays a lot of weight on states authority.

We still need the letters, emails and calls at all levels to continue.
We can make a difference

This is awesome but what fun is it to shoot with only a 10 round magazine.

BP Tactical - even in the wake of Heller, all state-level AWBs still stand. Look at CA, NY, MA... Colorado seems like an easy target for the gun control nuts.

It's the old hotdog and bun cunundrom......why do they always sell ammo in 20 round or 50 rd boxes if I have 30 rd magazines?

Re read my post amigo, Heller re-affirms states rights.
All the more reason to hammer our state reps.

I left California to get away from the crazies there. I miss the weather, especially in times like today. But, I like the freedoms of Colorado. I don't want a gun law passed here that is like CA

Just don't vote for liberals. There us no sense in leaving Ca.,if you are going to vote the same. Not saying you are, just don't do it if you were.

Hell no. I'm technically a Libertarian. I have never voted for a democrat.

The way that I see this we have zero elected representation within the state of Colorado that will listen to a damn word that we say. I have gotten so many "thank you for your interest, but stick it up your ass" responses that I genuinely feel that it is useless to even contact most of them. So if we can not get anything done on that front, we are going to need other methods, lobbying maybe something to give us a voice that the ass hats running this state have no choice but to listen to and at least acknowledge in a public realm. We are going to need to talk to the people that listen to us (NRA RMGO etc...) and see what opportunities are out there for us to help in the fight. This is not to say that we should not be hammering these jackwagons with emails, postcards and letters; we should be jamming their inbox's. But from a legislative front only they will know that and they will do what they want to unless someone is able to confront them on a public front that they will be forced to acknowledge. I have been donating what I can and contacting everyone via email and postcard and I hope that it is in some way productive. I just hope that everyone else is doing the same.

They'll start selling ten round boxes. Same way they sell the tiny boxes of cigarettes in New York. That's all the ammo we'll be able too afford.

The weather there sucks. 365 days of boring sunshine.

Gotta say I'd take 365 days of boring sunshine sooner than I'd take 180 days "exciting" weather...

The biggest and best change that could be made to state govt is to change how primaries work. Allow anyone to vote in one of the primaries, not just registered members of the party. Too many elections are decided in the primaries which means if you aren't a member of that party you have no voice at all.

News on the radio this morning said that Biden was pushing for three things: 1) Ban on high capacity magazines 2) Universal background checks AND 3) a reinstatement of the AWB. :( I think the gun-banners are still charging full steam ahead.

Why exactly should you have a say in a party's nomination process if you're not a member of that party? There have already been plenty of shenanigans in states that allow this with people from Party X crossing lines to vote in Party Y's primary to get the easiest person to defeat or the "least evil" alternative.

I've taken advantage of this myself when I've had it available but it's really a stupid idea. If you want a say in Party X's nominees, then join Party X. Otherwise, quit crying about who they choose to nominate.

because someone has drawn the lines to make damn sure my vote doesn't count?

Allowing people to say 90 days before the primary "let me vote in X primary" would be the same as switching parties to get into the primary. Without having to stand up & be counted as a member of that party.

Guess we'll find out quite a bit more on this tomorrow from the WhiteHouse...

In other words, you want to have your cake and eat it too, just like an Obama supporter. If I were a Republican or Democrat or Libertarian, I'd be pissed as hell at outsiders coming in and farting around with my party's candidates and positions. If you want to influence the Republicans or Democrats then join their party and work from within. You want your third or fourth tier party to count? Then convince enough Republicans and Democrats to drop their parties and join yours.

Wanting to be able to influence the candidates of a party you refuse to join even nominally is just crass-ackery.

(bold added)

I'll make sure to remember that next time I contact a rep from a different party.

If all that joining the party did was gave access to the primary, no problem, join the party. that's not all it does though. You are basically saying that everyone in denver should be registered democrat so they have any voice in the congress?

Yes, RMGO fights, but they are not the only dog in the fight. There are multiple individuals and groups that have already had personal meetings with legislators and even Hickenlooper. Saying RMGO is the only one to support is kind of like saying you can only buy guns from the Firing Line. Nothing against FL or RMGO directly, but lets not get tunnel vision on this.

Terrible idea. That lets Democrats pick our candidates for us. That's how we ended up with Maes running for governor in 2010, and might have been a factor in getting McCain in 2008 and Romney this last time around.

The choice is usually made well before we have a chance to participate, by states that have open primaries. Hell, nobody even bothers to check if the people voting have the right to vote. The whole system has been corrupted.
