does anyone know about Sturgeon Electric and how they are to work for? I am looking at taking a position there and thought I would seek any knowledge someone might have. I like overtime and was wondering about that, also just wondered about the company in general. Any info would be great, hoping someone here might work there. thanks

So you're saying that he'll experience interesting and new challenges?

Are you coming from Local 111 or local 68 hall ? All their hiring is from the local IBEWs unless you are management.
And most of their management comes from internal (the ranks).
I worked for them for several years out of local 111 until the slump that followed 9/11. Then I sat on the books at the union hall for a year and a half with only 2 months work the whole time. Then I got a non-union job.
Working for SECo wasn't bad, good overtime when there are contracts and kept me at 40 hrs. a week in the slow times. Until things got so bad that a scale down was necessary.

I think he means OP might have "invigorating and challenging experiences"

i hate sturgeon.

they are planting all these ugly limbless dead trees all around our area. Then so they dont fall over they are stringing wire to them. It is really screwing up my view.

My late father was union, 40+ year electrician, last decade or more Local IBEW 68. He worked for Sturgeon on two large projects that I remember, the last one was up at the Climax Molybdenum mines....... They treated him pretty good, then he got a new boss and they didnt see eye to eye and he said F'it and retired. That was like 2+ years ago.

IBEW 111 is a good strong union. And I've heard lots of good things about sturgeon.

thinking about the local IBEW 111 things arn't to good where I am at and I am thinking about changing. I have been hearing both good and bad all over, but just thinking that is going to be the way no mater where I go, just know that my family can't make it where I am at. Thanks for all the input, it gives me things to think about.

What's this IBEW? IS THAT A UNION? A person has to be a member of union in a right to work state to get a job? Does not sound right.

Colorado is not a right to work for less state. It was voted down recently.

My dad spent about 35 years with the Local 111 and enjoyed it for the most part.

There were always some Sturgeon guys, at the plant I worked at, pretty regularly. I never heard any grumbling. It's been eight years since that job.

Had two friends that were union electric under them. Not so good experiences but that has a lot to do with being laid off. Job security... not great.

As long as there contracts to be had and the union companies can keep their pencils sharp enough to get the contracts, the union halls can keep workers off the books and working.

I was installing Granite flooring in a Kitchen, Pantry and Laundry room.
Locked out the electric.
I hit that 220v with a wet sponge....

3 hours later I woke up in the ER.

Laugh all you like.
