I'm looking for a decent scope with variable power (3-9 minimum) with a mil dot reticle to use for a hunting rifle. My price range is around $300.00. I'm not interested in anything with BDC's. I saw that Redfield has one but am concerned with its exposed turrets and being calibrated for .223 as I'm shooting .300winmag. Any suggestions?

If you bump up your price range you might be able to get a pretty good scope. $300 for a variable mil-dot is not a lot of money.

you might look into vortex optics, they seem very affordable.
I love my Nikon monarch UCC 3-9 x40. Have it on a larue QD mount. Remember to get a good mount to go with the scope

Can't beat glass from a camera maker. If canon made rifle scopes I'd be all over them to match my DSLR
