There should be a mass exodus of gun owners from New York. If your state screws you and tramples your rights, don't continue supporting it.

Pay attention ladies and gentlemen. Pay attention and call your reps...
... So what mfg is going to make a 7 rd mag?
So 1 year to sell off all mags over 7 rounds? I see a spike in misdemeanor charges coming in NY's future. [facepalm]

3 round less capacity, that will make the difference. What a joke.

Actually it will end up outright banning a LOT of guns (or making them useless since there are no mags for them).
You ever see a 7 round magazine for a Glock?
Its not about saving lives its about control ... its also about pissing off the few conservatives left in New York and getting them to move out of state so the liberals have even more solid control. Which by the way is exactly what the coming mess of gun control coming to Colorado is about ... make it uncomfortable for conservatives to live in your state and enough of them will leave that you get permanent majorities in all elections.
If the gun control we're about to get here in Colorado doesn't cause people to rise up and throw the Demonrats out of power, Colorado is doomed (should change name to East California).
I smell ulterior motives:
"New Yorkers also would be barred from buying assault weapons over the Internet" -Taxes
"Private sales of assault weapons to someone other than an immediate family would be subject to a background check through a dealer." -More taxes to higher more government employees. "Jobs"
Other "brilliant ideas"
"The governor confirmed the proposal, previously worked out in closed session, also would mandate a police registry of assault weapons, grandfathering in assault weapons already in private hands."
- How soon do you think it will be before this information is published?
"New York is its major gun manufacturer upstate."
- Way to ensure that a company moves out of your state.

So unless you have a 1911, all mags are hereby illegal. Even an M1 has an 8 round clip. WHAT THE SHIT?
How long before crime in the city gets so bad that we have to wall it in and turn it into a giant prison?

Can someone explain to me what an "immediate family" is? Is that like your next door neighbor, or I guess in New York, it'd be like any family in the building you live in?
I can't believe they think this is really going to have ANY effect whatsoever on gun violence. Might as well limit the ammo capacity to 3 rounds: 1 for the bad guy, 1 chance to miss, and 1 to shoot yourself when the perp sues you for shooting him. Then again, that would ban all guns, they're at least one step closer to doing that though. [Bang]

I know I'm sounding like a broken record here but THAT IS NOT THE PURPOSE.
Its about controlling the sheep and running conservatives out of their state.
Nearly every .22 pistol has a standard magazine capacity of 10 rounds, and many .22 revolvers have 8 0r 9 chambers in the cylinder. Ruger 10/22 comes standard with a 10 round mag, and many tube mags hold even more. I see NO EXCEPTION for rimfires. Dumbasses.

And how long before they decide to limit the number of magazines you can have? That way you won't be able to just defeat their bullshit by doing mag changes.

I don't get the impression that any aspect of the magazine limit number was an oversight. They very likely tried to figure out a number that would be just low enough to effectively outlaw the vast majority of firearms.

This IS the Answer. Everyone seemd to be forgetting the most important aspects of the new NY law.
http://blog.timesunion.com/capitol/archives/175879/cuomo-unveils-gun-bill-but-no-deal-for-vote-tonight/
"Conduct real time background checks of ammunition purchases in order to alert law enforcement of high volume buyers"
In another provision, a therapist who believes a mental health patient made a credible threat to use a gun illegally would be required to report it to a mental health director who would have to notify the state. A patient’s gun could be taken from him or her.
May i see your Papers Pleez.

Immediate family = spouse or children who reside in the same home. Might even cover parents and grandparents who live elsewhere. Surely does not cover inlaws, cousins, uncles.

I wonder how long it's going to take until it's in front of SCOTUS, and what that result will be.

What also makes this ludicrous is that there exist firearms that no one makes new, lower capacity, magazines for.

It's genius in that regard. They've effectively banned millions of guns without that aspect actually hitting the media radar.

it is unclear if you can block a mag and make it legal. During the debate some assumed you could but who knows what the law will end up being.
I'd take the chance and block a mag down to 6 rounds before it got locked in a drawer forever or sold away.
I need to start a company that makes 7 round mags for every gun out there. Flood that damn market!

Of course, I disagree with Senator Ball. I assure you that this monumental bill passed by the peace loving, friendly people of the state of New York, will save the lives of innumerable Violent Felons from all criminal professions.
Finally the outcry for regulations to ensure worker safety in dangerous criminal enterprises has been heard.
This is akin to OSHA for organized crime, where low level thugs safety is finally regulated.
No more will the common home invader be worried that they will face violence from home owners. No more will muggers worry if they will make it back to the flop house to smack up their hookers at night.
Long has the plight of murderers, muggers and rapist been ignored, but no more.
Bravo, New York, for finally making crime safe.
Unlikely. Original Colt Sporter mags had a brass U block reducing a 20rd to a 5rd for hunting . . . but it was easily removed.

I know a lot of responses are toungue and cheak, but we need to stand together-Democrat, Republican, Independant, etc.-We are all gun owners who believe in a free and armed society. The only way we are going to win this is to stand up, speak loudly, and vote! We need to donate to the NRA, RMGO, etc. even if we don't totally believe in all of their philosphies. We need to have our family members, friends, neighbors, etc. join us in this battle. Engage everyone you know. Use social media (ask your kids to help here, my 13 year old is great with Facebook), forums, etc.
Engage, Engage, Engage.
I for one am not going down without a fight. Even if it is a political one, let's go in "words a blazing" (pardon the pun)
Start contacting our senators and representatives daily. Greg Brophy is a local rep who is very pro gun. We need to support people like him so that we can protect our freedoms. We need to be ambassadors for firearm ownership.
Are you with me?
NY is just a small part of the big picture.
It passed there ,now its off to other states, one state at a time.Untill the whole US is on the same page and without an EO.

I didn't read the whole thread, just searched it, and was wondering about the 7 round/mag part. I'm not a 1911 owner (it's on the wish list someday) but know that most 1911s are 7 rounders. AND Kimber's headquarters is in NY. Do I need to ogle other 1911s and steer clear of Kimber? Did they have their hand in the 7 round BS??

I guess that would make people safer if even the police officers were bound to the 7rd capacity. Remember the shooting near the Empire State Building, where two police officers shot so many rounds and still failed to his the perp? (my memory may be a little off so if I have time I'll find the article. [facepalm]
One of the many reasons and the major one I left NY was that so many people from NYC moved up to the "country" to get away from the city.
Well when they got here they were like, wheres the malls?Wheres the streetlights? wheres all the stuff we left behind? So hence they converted the "country" to their extension of the city, with all the libtard politics and stupidity...And again-they want to get away from the city......[facepalm]
Boy did they ever do it. It looks like the restrictions cover police officers as well.
http://nation.foxnews.com/gun-control/2013/01/17/rush-pass-bill-ny-forgets-exempt-police-gun-laws
Gotta pass the bill to see what's in it?
"Owners of an estimated 1 million previously legal semiautomatic rifles, such as the Bushmaster model used to kill 20 children and six adults in Newtown, Conn., a month ago, will be allowed to keep their weapons but will have a year to register them with police. The sale of any more such weapons is prohibited.
"
Wow, like to see how this works out for them.
Last I knew in Conn. you had to register them since the first awb.

There's hope for NY yet.
Assault-rifle owners statewide are organizing a mass boycott of Gov. Cuomo’s new law mandating they register their weapons, daring officials to “come and take it away,” The Post has learned.
Gun-range owners and gun-rights advocates are encouraging hundreds of thousands of owners to defy the law, saying it’d be the largest act of civil disobedience in state history.
“I’ve heard from hundreds of people that they’re prepared to defy the law, and that number will be magnified by the thousands, by the tens of thousands, when the registration deadline comes,’’ said Brian Olesen, president of the American Shooters Supply, one of the largest gun dealers in the state.
