View Full Version : Democrat solution to drunk driving

I created this story to help everyone understand democrat thinking on gun control:
There was a group of six people driving down the road in a Hummer. The driver was drunk as skunk, lost control spinning off the road and killing all six. A month later there was a group of seven people driving down the road in a Pontiac Montana mini van, the driver was drunk as a skunk and lost control crashing into a bridge abutment killing all seven. In order to stop all this killing Obama bought GM and closed down the Hummer and Pontiac divisions, everyone felt safer. Later that year there was a Chevy Cruze with four passengers and Ford Aspire with three passengers heading down the highway toward each other the drivers were both drunk and the cars ran head on into each other and all seven were killed. One month later every democrat governor wants to ban or at least have background checks to buy a Chevrolet or Ford from your neighbor, and limit capacity to two people. Doesn't this make perfect sense to every reasonable person to stop drunk driving. Now you should have a better understanding as to why democrats have created the solutions they have on gun control.

Crazy part is, your automobile analogy isn't protected by the constitution, happens much more frequently than firearm deaths, and SHOULD be much easier to enact than 2a laws, yet our 2a rights are still in jeopardy!

It is easier to disarm the "Bill of Rights" than do something to save lives. If car companies wanted to reduce deaths they could install breathalyzers in all new cars for less than the cost of the stereo.

I want to see the voting records of every mass murderer...maybe then we can ban politicians.

Umm...was proposed. There was actually an insurance pool created to pay for it, never got off the ground. Cost with interlocks and controls was about $400/vehicle.

You are trying to use logic and fact against a movement that uses sound bites and emotion and they are experts at it.

Ted Kennedy?

Couldn't have been. No mention of the passenger being pregnant.

So I'm playing hooky with a head cold and being highly productive, as I stare at a laundry basket full of clean clothes that won't seem to fold themselves, I found a great little blog on the hypocrasy of drunk driving vs gun control. Thought it could go here.

I also would like to ask, is the author a member here??

It sounds good in theory but its a poor analogy..

Car drivers must carry liability insurance on their vehicles -- we as gun owners, do not have to have liability insurance on our guns
Car manufacturers are heavily regulated re safety gear that *must* be installed for a car to be sold -- gun manufacturers have no such requirements
Car manufacturers can be held liable for crashes even when the driver is found negligible -- not so for gun manfs (thank god)

Don't push the analogy too far -- you just might get what you are asking for. Which would kill the gun industry overnight.

Not yet, anyway.

FFL dealers are required to include a locking device (some new guns have them integrated into the gun) when selling any handgun. Doesn't have to be installed on the gun but the gov't requires it be included in the sale. Same thing.

Car manufacturers can be held liable for crashes even when the driver is found negligible -- not so for gun manfs (thank god)

It was...until just the last few years.

Don't push the analogy too far -- you just might get what you are asking for. Which would kill the gun industry overnight.

This is good advice. There are a few valid comparisons, but don't push this as your main argument. It won't end well. The focus must remain on the perpetrators of these tragedies, how they could have been foreseen, prevented altogether, and stopped quicker.

If the analogy held, there would be no licensing or registration or insurance requirement, no limits on allowable equipment, and almost no limits at all, on private property.

John Elway would be the biggest gun dealer in Colorado.

Dealin' Doug would wear tights while selling S&W M&Ps in annoying TV ads.

RideArrangers would be loaning guns to people who wanted to go shooting as a group.

Ammo would be sold in every 7-11 and Circle K around.

I could buy an overpriced used DPMS PoS in any Buy-Here-Pay-Here lot on Alameda.

I feel like it is very important to note that the presence of liability insurance is no insurance that deaths will be prevented. Something to think about.

I just tell libs they've committed more alcohol related offenses that could've resulted in serious injury or death, than I have with my firearms.
