With the President speaking tomorrow is anyone shocked by this. That's all I've been hearing so far is that how appropriate the Presidents timing is. Yet another shooting that benefits the Presidents timeline perfectly.

Yeah I saw that a little while ago. Just what we needed another "school" shooting. Normally this wouldn't have even made anything but the local news but this will go nationwide.

One person shot, plus the perp by his own hand. Both expected to survive. I'm not sure I grasp why this is remarkable.

The Media will make it so.....

They're already trying to make it look like a panic-inducing riotous massacre.

Yep, they're definitely over-hyping every gun related incident everywhere ... these people have some sort of hive mind.

I find it shocking that it was at a school. I thought for sure that the next publicized shooting would have been at a VFW, Elk's, or a gun show.

[facepalm]

it wasnt really a repost. it was a near simultaneous post.
This! And Monkey wins today's overall prize for attacking the vague nature of the other post... [Beer]

This hardly renders a blip on my radar however... how is this any different from the daily shootings in NY, LA and Chicago? Oh because it's at a college? This is more of that media over-sensationalizing any type of gun-related story... And the day before Obummer speaks on this subject? CCW for all law-abiding folks everywhere!! That's the only fix!

I don't really care about this crap anymore. Reinforces my decision to CCW and I feel safe when in public. If others do not want to do the same, that's their choice.

I use to work in a max security prison, I won't say in what capacity. Just know, I'm not one of those people that "Failed the Physical" and become a prison guard or a rent a cop, because I want people to think I'm a badarse. My point is that I felt safer within the prison walls (with the possibility of getting knifed everyday) verses being in my own hood getting groceries. In the prison everyone was dangerous, outside of the prison you don't know who is dangerous.

No, people here would rather have their threads lost with the other five hundred "2A Under Attack!", "Another Shooting!", & "Hot Chicks with Guns!" threads...

Get used to it. The drive-by media is going to over-hype every little incident. Shoot, it worked in NY. Build on everyone's fear and jam it through while they're still emotional about it. That's their MO, these days.

And this is yet again, one more reason why I'm glad my Fiancee no longer works in Financial Aid at a community college, in a military town (where a large percentage of the student population is military, quite a few with PTSD). She had several students who were stalking her or treating her badly.

On a somewhat related note, she told me last night though that when the weather gets a little warmer down here, she wants me to sign her up for her CCW class. We weren't even talking about firearms at the time, it was just a random thought she had. I'm so excited she is finally ready!

Furthering what stereotype?

I assume you mean the military comment due to your avatar/signature. The two guys that WERE stalking her, and she has proof of it, both were military. One had severe brain damage from some event overseas. How do I know this? He TALKED about it to his class on the first day of the semester that SHE was teaching. The other, overstepped many boundaries (personal space, touching others without reason, sexual advances, etc) because he had PTSD. How do I know this? The president of the college told us this as we were reporting him for the last time on campus for stalking her, she said that she met with the student and he was clueless of the things he does that are inappropriate, and explained that he has PTSD (from what I don't know).

My reply probably wasn't warranted. Just because you are/were in the Mil doesn't mean you can't be an idiot. There is a stigma that I and a lot of us have now that we are all "ticking time bombs" and "PTSD ridden crazy lunitics" thanks to the mainstream media. It's really frustrating and it angers me, so that's why I replied the way I did.

No worries. I was not military, though I applied to USAF OTS, took the ASVAB and then got my current job in my field and dropped the application (though at times I wonder where I'd be had I gone through with the application. And I may re-apply after I finish my second degree in a few years, just to see my options). My father USAF for 16yrs (USAFA 1977), his father AF for 33yrs (Ret. Lt. Col.), Mom's father was AF for 32yrs (Ret. Lt. Col.)

I can understand how my statement may have come across, however I did not mean it in the general terms. There really are quite a few students at this school with serious problems. The largest being having problems being reintegrated into civilian life. On any given day you can see a handful of people in military uniforms, who aren't active duty. My Fiancee (who teaches sociology) has had several of this type of student in her classes, and they have spoken up about why they still wear their uniforms. But the two that she's had problems with were extreme cases.
