So we have a lot of picture threads going. But nothing just mountain related! (at least what I though was mountain related)

Post your mountain activities.

Hiking. Biking. Backpacking. Riding. Shooting. Skiing. Harley's/Sport bikes. Climbing. 14er's. Car Kamping. Etc....

Doesn't have to be artistic. Just for fun!

Has to have mountains in it though!!

I'll start with a diverse group of photos........

Close. It's far from being a secret spot so I might as well say it. Cheesman canyon.
If there's any worm dunkers here thinking about going up there with their tub full of night crawlers and power bait, don't. Ive ratted out poachers before and I enjoy it.

I really like fishing the Pan on weekdays. I've always had good luck there. Even then the crowds can be ridiculous.

I once saw a guide walking around and kind of "kicking" the fish towards his client. I know what he was trying to do, but come on. I guess I just thought it was kind of comical.

I must agree ..... shocked the extra large balls did not get in the way

The skiing was excellent on the other side of the mountain. This was my first time snow-climbing something that steep. Fortunately the snow-camo helps hide the poop stains!

If you have 4WD and decent clearance, not a problem getting to the parking places below Lizard Lake. If it is dry you could even get there with a 2WD truck. We could have driven all the way up to Crystal in my FJ, but wanted to see everything so did the hike.

I love it. I really got into Creeking but had to check myself a bit when my daughter was born and I had a couple really bad swims ( bad enough to think I wasn't getting out of the hole bad). I lost a couple buddies who were great paddlers in only a 5 year span and decided that for now on I would walk any given rapid if it just didn't feel right. I still love it though. There's something about experiencing your entire emotion spectrum on any given day....I've paddled a lot of Wavesports...love the Diesel

[LOL]I think I've only washed that quad twice since I got it. One of these days I'll learn to clean it, plus with no airbox lid on it I tend to stay out of the water and mud. I need to bring it to epic and have them tune and rejet it. Twin carbs are a setup I'm not that familiar with, FI is so much easier.

ray1970
10-25-2013, 18:07
Mine could use a good wash. I had it stripped down to just about the bare frame and cleaned really well before my last trip out. Looks like I might have to strip it back down again to get it good and clean.

Back country skis are always rock skis!

If you look at the first photo - I was able to ski off the summit to the right (North -> North East) then swing around on continuous snow to the South East for about 1000 vertical or so. Then it was a mix of snow fields, rock fields, snow fields, down to tree line. From tree line to Cotton Wood pass it was mostly snow with some dirt, rocks, and several stream crossings which mean wet boots.

As you can see, VERY popular trail. It was work for me to get a picture without any people in it. We hiked in about 2 hours, but at a snail's pace. Our daughter was the youngest as far in as we got, but we ended up not hiking in quite as far as my run tracker led me to believe.

So pretty much the same way you would in a tent, but without the extra weight? Looks like you run the tarp as low as possible to reduce drafts and make the space above you as small as possible?

Tinelement

Pretty much. It is a very light option. First try with it in the winter months. Very happy with how it worked. I ran as low to the ground as I could to reduce the air under me. If needed I could also pile up snow along the opening at the bottom of the tarp also.

The alternative is an underquilt. I've got a synthetic 3/4 underquilt that is good down to 25 degrees or so and weighs 20oz.

I've been setting up the hammock in a local natural area on Saturday mornings. I'm really looking forward to the mountains warming up.

The Boy Scouts have camp there, buts an adventure camp so the counsellors are either sex. The young kids camps allow family's to camp with their kids.

It was a good trip. One of the guys snapped this picture of me on the hike in. Kinda shows my load out. I have my backpack down to 30lbs for winter trips and that will get me 2 nights.

I am good friends with one of the instructors from Ronin Tactics long range course. They are wanting to turn the course into a trip like this with long range high altitude shooting. So this was kind of a initial practice run for that. I built the sled set up for just my shooting gear. 2 15"x20" AR500 plates and my shooting gear came in at about 70lbs. So I had a solid 100lb load out on this trip. That was plenty! We clocked just short of 9 miles.

It was another great experience all around. Learned a lot about my gear and even the capabilities of my rifle in those conditions. Lots of surprises!
