As you all may or may not know, I was involved in a motorcycle accident on my way to work on Friday. I got to spend a few days in ICU at the Denver Knife and Gun club, but I am home now resting uncomfortably on about a 6 inch long gash in my right butt cheek. Let the "brain damage" jokes begin!

Glad to hear you're home and ok. As a fellow rider I have to ask since nobody else has, how's the bike? Cause? Please tell me you were in hot-pursuit chasing some guys who robbed a bank or terrorists who had planned to blow something up and were firing a large gun one handed while sliding around a turn in true CGI fashion in a way that not even gay Tom Cruise or anyone from the cast of the expendables could.

PS - I hope your ass heals.

Considering a Honda Accord was on top of the bike with its back wheels completely lifted off of the ground is say the bike has seen better days.

Glad to hear you are alive and doing well. I saw the accident and immediately thought there was no way anyone could have survived. Clearly you're one of the luckiest men on the planet! Rest up and get well soon.

I originally thought "He probably hit his head. No problem. Hardest part of his body, and I'm sure he was wearing a helmet."

But to hear you actually got your ass ripped...I was worried!

Glad to hear you're out, and getting better. I've been in a couple ugly bike wrecks, never any fun.

Sadly, no exciting story. I was on my way to work, running about 55 mph in moderate traffic. The minivan in front of the Civic in front of me came to a sudden stop. The Civic jammed on the brakes, smacked the mini van, I grabbed a bunch of front brake, but there wasn't time to avoid the collision. The front tucked, and the bike slid under the Honda. At some point after I cam off, the bike spun around an I hit it, opening the big slice in my ass cheek. I was wearing full safety gear, which did it's job in exemplary fashion. I initially thought I had escaped without injury, stood up, and noticed a significant amount of blood splashing down the back of my leg, at which point I decided to lay down on the ground and put pressure on the wound to stem the bleeding. I apparently lost about half a liter on scene, and another 300 ml in the ambulance. I never lost consciousness, but they did lose my distal pulse at one point for a few seconds. At some point, an FBI officer showed up and assisted by putting pressure on the wound (I forget his name, but many thanks!). A short bus ride to the Denver Knife and gun club, and they had me stable and on my way into surgery. They got me into radiology, some CT scans and xrays, they got the C-collar off and got me into surgery, then the ICU. I have some observations on the state of health care in this country when I have the energy for a proper rant, but the Trauma center at DHMC is top notch.

Wow man. Well I'm glad you got quick treatment. I know what it's like to hit something. Back in 95 I had a truck pull out 25 feet in front of me at 50mph. No blood, but I wound up 50 yards down the street on my belly with some sprains, bruises and a concussion. Bike was destroyed, pride crushed. I hope you're healed up and back on 2 wheels when the time is right.
