Just saw this on an AP story:

(AP) - Nearly as many Americans die from guns as from car crashes each year. We know plenty about the second problem and far less about the first. A scarcity of research on how to prevent gun violence has left policymakers shooting in the dark as they craft gun control measures without much evidence of what works.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_motor_vehicle_deaths_in_U.S._by_year we had 32,367 deaths by car in 2011. We can't have that many gun deaths a year.

You get that number by adding the number gun homicides to the number of gun suicides.

All homicidesNumber of deaths: 16,259

Deaths per 100,000 population: 5.3

Firearm homicides
Number of deaths: 11,078
Deaths per 100,000 population: 3.6

Of the 30,470 firearm-related deaths in the United States in 2010, 19,392 (63.6%) were suicide deaths,

Its more selective reporting to make a political point, or (perhaps more likely) lazy reporting.

CDC surveys on gun violence have been helpful to our cause, as it shows that numbers aren't as high as the left claims.

They only looked at like 10 states for those numbers. When you take Alaska for example, more guns and drunks that shoot and kill. Not as many cars. But combine all 50 states, no it's not true.

Studies have shown that in the US, about 55% of suicides use guns. That tells me that even without access to a gun, it's real easy to kill yourself. People that desire suicide will find a way, regardless of access to firearms.
