Janet Napolitano, head of the Department of Homeland Security, released a statement Wednesday saying she is "proud to support" the Obama administration's efforts to "combat gun violence in our country." Here's more from Napolitano's statement:
In the aftermath of the tragic Newtown shooting, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), together with the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the FBI have worked to identify measures that could be taken to reduce the risk of mass casualty shootings. In the coming days, DHS will expand and formalize coordination of ongoing efforts intended to prevent future mass casualty shootings, improve preparedness, and to strengthen security and resilience in schools and other potential targets. DHS will work with partners at all levels of government, to address five critical areas intended to reduce the risk of mass casualty shootings in the United States: Prevention, Protection, Response, Education, and Research/Evaluation. DHS will also work with law enforcement to refresh, expand and prioritize the implementation of nationwide public awareness efforts such as the “If You See Something, Say Something™” campaign. This is a critical issue that requires immediate attention and I look forward to supporting the President and this Administration as we move ahead.
I agree, though I think it has been out of hand for quite a while already. It is definitely interesting to see these things unravel, almost as if it was a giant conspiracy and everything has already been planned out, with the various representatives taking pre-set positions on the matter.

*Calls 911* Hi, yes, I just saw my neighbor put a rifle and an ammo can in the trunk of their car and I fear they are going to use it.
*dispatcher* Okay, thank you sir, i've dispatched a squad and they should be there momentarily. Please stay inside, but can you tell me the make/model of the car?
Sigh, things really could get out of control much quicker than that even. I pray it doesn't come to that, I really do.
But I'll tell you this, if one of my neighbors calls me in, I'll know which one it was and I'll take my dog over to their yard EVERYDAY to take a nice big poop on their lawn, err, rocks, cause its the desert.

I used to load up my car outside, and didn't worry about who saw, but now I'm completely rethinking that idea and will only be loading the car up in the garage where no one can see what I'm doing.

Looks like I will need to put whatever vehicle I'm driving to the range in the garage, close the door, load the vehicle, get everyone in, open the door and then drive to the range. Probably be my Explorer since it has the tinted windows. Might have to get her car's windows tinted too. [Rant2]

Here is an example. This is becoming more and more common.

Due to its close proximity to Washington DC, in recent years Maryland has become one of the worst police states in the country.
Last month, we reported on a botched FBI raid in Maryland (http://theintelhub.com/2012/11/17/fbi-rushes-into-home-of-maryland-family-and-shoots-at-unarmed-18-year-old-girl/), where unarmed teenagers were shot at simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Then, just the other day in Baltimore, an activist and blogger had his house surrounded by police (http://theintelhub.com/2012/12/02/baltimore-activist-and-blogger-arrested-streams-swat-team-standoff-online-audio/) over a trumped-up charge that was over 3 years old.
Now, in a more rural area of Maryland, a man named Terry Porter became the target of a massive manhunt involving FBI and state police after being reported to be a “survivalist” with a “collection of guns” who outlined his anger over the presidential reelection to an undercover officer.
This situation apparently stemmed from an anonymous tip from someone who reported Terry to the police because he owned guns and invested in a bomb shelter.
Where this “anonymous” tip actually came from is still a mystery due to the fact that many of the neighbors in the area who were questioned by reporters have expressed support for Terry and have said that they are extremely offended by the tax dollars and police resources that were used to hunt down a nonviolent person.
the neighbors will continue to see me loading and unloading rifles in my driveway 3 houses down from a school. Going into hiding isnt the answer, I'm not doing anything wrong.

My proposal right after Sandy Hook was only three pronged: Prevent, Protect and Intervene. I can see where an Education activity would be useful, too, in arguments/discussions with the anti's. Not interested in having DHS in the mix, as I want them to go away, and "If you see something, say something" is way too intrusive, unless we could actually educate folks to tell the difference between a range trip and a rage trip. Since half of everyone is below average, I'm not confident that would work.

What we should be doing:
1. Implement the Eddie the Eagle program in every school in the nation. Educate every student on the safe use, handling and actions to be taken in various situtations with firearms.
2. Ban all "gun free zones".
3. Expand the "make my day" laws across the nation.
4. Stop prosecuting law abiding citizens for taking out criminals. If someone breaks into your home or car, or threatens you, your family, friends with bodily harm, they have just forfeited ALL rights.

Yep. Not that I would be afraid of somebody calling me in in my neighborhood anyway.

I have never loaded the truck for range trips in view of my neighbors. Not because I was worried they would turn me in, but because I didn't want my house to become a target for theft.
However, the ever increase reach and influence of the DHS is troublesome IMO.
Might have to get her car's windows tinted too. [Rant2]

I never had a garage until I bought a house, that has a 2 car garage. However, my truck will not fit in the garage since one of the spots is shorter because the previous owners created a "laundry" room by installing the old kitchen shelves next to the washer/dryer (and because of the suspension lift I have on it). Therefore, my mini cooper only fits in that spot, with about 1ft of clearance.
My shooting range dirt/rock roads that are in pretty bad shape, with a few pot holes deeper than 4", so I always drove my truck, which meant I had to load it up while it was in the driveway (but was always very discrete about it). Lately though, I've been taking the Mini and just driving all crazy like at the range to dodge the pot holes. I'd rather load up inside my garage instead of rushing to get everything in the truck at once and remembering to lock the doors each time I put something it.
The biggest thing I worried about was when I bought my safe, having my neighbors see me unload that from my friend's pickup and move it into the house through the garage. I think 3 of my neighbors were outside that day, but they were hiding around the sides of their houses and couldn't see. Plus we were able to unload the safe while it was still in the box and then close the garage door when it was time to unbox it.
My proposal right after Sandy Hook was only three pronged: Prevent, Protect and Intervene. I can see where an Education activity would be useful, too, in arguments/discussions with the anti's. If only half of everyone on the planet was below average, we'd probably be better off. More than half of the people who voted showed that they are WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY below average.....
