I want to start competiting in 3Gun and Multi gun matches this summer, so I'm in the market for a shotty. What are your guys recommendation, and whats a good gauge to get? I'm guessing from what I read I'd be in "tatical" class? cause of my M4 has a holo sight.

You'll want an autoloader. Benellis are the lightest. Remington 1100 tactical is nice but heavier. Winchester SX2 or whatever they are called now are nice too. You'll want a 12 gauge.

Are pumps not competive anymore?

Mossberg 590A1, Remington 870 and Mossberg also has a new autoloader that is getting good write ups. If money is object than go here:

Bone stock guns are good too. I am not rich, so I have a bone stock 590 and a 500. Both have side saddles to hold ammo. The 590 has a nice sling and flashlight as it is the house gun. But stay with a combat gun and not a hunting gun.

I use the sx2, it holds 10 rounds, and lets them go faster than you can ever imagine. they are marked fnh now not winchester, but they are the same.

I use my moss 500 I can shoot just as fast with a pump as an auto. The problem is I shoot with Zack, Jimmy, Alan, Eric....ect. it wont make a damn bit of difference what gun I use they will still kick my butt.

what's your objective in competing?

skill refinement?
competition ?
high score?
just be out shooting with the gang?

I say take what you have out first, and see what path you'd like to take from there.

myself, I'm in it for me. I use a Mossy 590A1.

An optic on your shotgun puts you in Open division. Same as porting or a 14 round tube.

Two schools of thought on shotguns. Gas operated/heavy but soft shooting. Recoil operated/light kicks more and fast indexing.

Get a 1100 or a Benelli M2. Short barrels are good. 21-24 inches is the norm. Add a 9 round tube and you are good to go.

Pumps are mostly run in He-Man division, but can be used in any division. A good pump gun driver can hand the average semi-auto shooter his ***. However, with equal ability shooters, a semi will almost always win.

Under high stress, pumps tend to get short stroked, a lot. Not that I have done it or anything...

rtr is right on when he says 12 gauge.

Like most, I am shooting a Benelli M1/2 that holds up to 11 rounds. 9 in the tube, 1 in the chamber and one on the lifter. They load really easy and that alone is a huge plus.

Gas guns are good, but there is a *LOT* more parts in there to break/bend and wear out. Most gas guns are nothing more than hunting guns with long tubes and black plastic stocks that were never made to get pounded by thousands and thousands of rounds.

Get a Benelli M2 and dont look back. It only hurts once, when you sign the check.

FNH SL-Police MK1

I put my Bushnell on there just for the hell of it, it be removed. Gonna bring it to the range tomorow to put 50 or so rounds through it.

Sweet shotgun.

PFC Daniel Horner from the AMU shoots one and loves it.

The flip up rear sight is a nice plus for slug shots.

I was wondering about that, the other shotty's I was looking at only had a front Fiber and no back sight. and in the manual they had a Rail rear sight instead of the flip down.

The worst part is, I bought a nice $150 SKB double rifle case for my M4 several months back, come to find out its just to short for the Shotty, unless I take down the stock [Rant2]

You may want to look at the Saiga 12, 10 round mags, and AK fast.

Woulden't this put you in OPEN class cause of the "Magazine Loaded" rounds?

It would in fact put you in Open Division and select loading different ammo is a pain.

And getting the Saigas to run 100% isnt easy or cheap. I have yet to see one make it through a whole match without puking.
