I only watched a few minutes, but it didn't appear to me that Glover has suffered any oppression recently. I could be wrong.
He is entitled to his opinion, just as he is entitled to be wrong. But that would just be my opinion.
Other than your personal hate for the guy, where is that statement wrong? If you could think with a clear head and not your knee jerk hate for anyone liberal you would see Glover just handed you a golden egg.

I have no personal hatred of Glover. He is an actor with an opinion.
I personally believe his version of US history is distorted. He is entitled to his opinion, just as you are.
I got tired of the video when they showed the last two speakers that were hosted at the MLK Jr talk at Texas A&M: Harry Belafonte and Angela Davis.

I also agree that his view on history is distorted. But I also think there is some truth in that statement. Because in the end, the population without guns will always be a victim to those who do have guns and have no conscience in using that power to do bad things.

Although nynco has a good sentiment, Glover's statement is flat-out wrong. The Second Amendment was inserted for protection against a tyrannical government. If you want to blame anything on racism and keeping slaves in check, you can blame the beginnings of gun control (at least in the South) -- which is exactly the opposite of what Glover said.

That would be great if his distorted view actually led HIM to that conclusion. Unfortunately it didn't. In fact, he seems to come to the opposite conclusion. And none of us will have the platform to speak from or gather enough attention to refute his statements. He gets to spout his views unopposed.

Well, no actually the founding fathers did not have slaves in mind when framing the Constitution. To them, owning a weapon for hunting was as natural as waking up in the morning. However, owning a weapon for PERSONAL DEFENSE and CIVIL UNREST... now those were things they were very concerned with.
Why? you ask? Well knucklehead, its because they had very fresh evidence of EXACTLY what an oppressive government could do with unarmed populace. That little Revolutionary War thing. along with the French/Indian war, and the various wars that had been fought in Europe- first Napoleanic comes to mind- where the unarmed populace was completely controlled by the ruling class.
Having and understanding this evidence our founding fathers SPECIFICALLY provided for the citizenry to be armed as well as if not better than any standing army.
It had jack shit to do with slavery, and repeating it over and over again will not make it so.
ETA: While you have me on the subject, let me remind EVERYONE that the 2nd does not protect the right to shoot Bambi for food or shoot clay pigeons out of the air, those uses for firearms again were just UNDERSTOOD- a man has to feed his family, and could do so with a musket or shotgun- No Sir. The 2ND specifically empowers the American Citizen to keep and bear arms so that if it comes to it they have the ability to defend against and overthrow government tyranny. IN other words, to shoot politicians and their agents should the need arise.
I don't think that NYNCO is suggesting that the 2nd was created to maintain a hold over slaves. I think he is saying that the perfect GOTCHA! response to Danny Glover is, "So you're saying that without guns, people are likely to be enslaved?"
And many liberals would answer; "That is why we have the 13th Amendment which ended slavery. So you don't need guns anymore because slavery is illegal and unconstitutional in America. The 2nd is an anachronism and normal people don't need to have guns anymore."
IMO, arguing with people like Danny Glover is on par with watching dogs chasing their tail. Yeah, if you have plenty of time and nothing productive to do, it can be amusing, however, it gets old pretty fast and it has no real point.
