Noticed the bluecore shooting deal that was in the email today is now dead.

Their stock also TANKED not long ago. They're the subject of a class action.

That's a pretty unfortunate deal. I could see this costing Groupon dearly. I used one of the Groupon deals for my CCW and I know the CCW instruction company depends on Groupon to fill up his classrooms.

I have been in the early stages of starting up a new business and we were going to use Groupon as one of our key marketing tools. Groupon is a very powerful marketing tool if used correctly. Hopefully Groupon gets it together and does the right thing.

I have used groupon a few times, but will not be doing any dealings with them from now on. My Buddy just started a Gym and he was talking with groupon and they take a A large portion of the deal, so they must have been making a killing on all the firearms related training classes.

Wall street is NOT optimistic about Groupon (GRPN). Right now, they NEED ALL THE DAMN DEAL THEY CAN GET.
Their mobile device was a huge fail. Lack of interest from consumer from mobile network.

Every vendor I've ever talked to after using Groupon has had nothing pleasant to say about the experience. For something like a CCW class where you're not actually giving away product, just your time I could see it not having as much of an impact.

My local butcher ran one and I bought it and after talking to him about the nightmare it was I tossed it and paid him full price for the stuff.

I've used them for some pretty good deals, but after reading this thread, I just "unsubscribed" from their emails. Then I sent them an email (through the "contact us" link on their page), and told them that they had lost my business due to their anti-gun stance. I recommend everyone do the same, so they get the message.

Yep, they take something like 50%+ so if you have a groupon of $25 for $50 worth of product you only see like $12 out of the $50 credit you gave.

Also feel free to post the same on the Groupon Facebook page

Groupon sucks for retailers and such. It's a total win for Groupon who really assumes no risk while the retailer is required to basically take a loss unless their mark up is huge. And then it's likely a break even at best. People who use Groupon are generally NOT repeat customers and more likely to follow the next deal. Which are generally customers you don't want to begin with. They want something for nothing and then complain about it.

Groupon Deals unsubscribed, Customer Service contacted to cancel account, and adding them to the list of businesses I don't recommend. Thanks for the heads-up.

My wife is a massage therapist/esthetician and has done several Groupon deals in the past (with so-so results). She will be canceling as well.

fudge em. My wife bought a few things from them, decent enough deals, but half the time the companies didn't seem to pleased with it. One of the restaurants tried everything they could not to honor it.

I've used them before for restaurants, but I'll be nixing them too now. Was hoping to catch one of the CCW deals, so I'm kinda pissed! Missed my chance I guess. I've heard they've been running in the red for awhile, so the stock thing is no surprise. Especially when they have to compete with LivingSocial, DailyDeals, WestwordVoice, etc.

My wife uses them very often; she checks groupon more often than her email. She will not be giving them any more business. I posted some scathing remarks on their FB page and it was removed within seconds (they're a long-time partner of FB). I sent a not-very-nice email and demanded they cancel my account.

I hope these businesses which have decided to take an Anti-American political stance in their polices are beginning to suffer repercussions. I'm running out of places to shop.

Groupon needs to be used correctly. The problem a lot of businesses have with Groupon is that they expect the groupon to generate profit immediately and that is simply not the case. If used correctly Groupon can be used as a highly effective marketing tool.

Firearms company X does a CCW class for $59. 30 people attend the class, the owner of company X is the instructor and receives 50% of the $1800 his groupon generated for the class. After paying $200 for the venue where he holds the class he still makes $700 for 4 hours work which is a decent take. But that is not where he makes the bulk of the money.

At the end of the CCW class the firearms instructor tells people about the advanced firearms training classes his company offers. He offers a special price for anyone leaves a deposit on a future advanced class. The advanced classes are 100-150 a pop and 15 of the 30 people who attend the class sign up for advanced classes, the owner/instructor gets to retain 100% of the money for the advanced classes.

This same type of model can be applied to many companies. I recently attended a Barbecue instruction class that was structured similarly, they also used the class as a commercial to sell you barbecue supplies and it worked out pretty well. Just about every person who attended the class purchased a few items.

Here is their lame reply to my email:

Thank you for reaching out to us. We appreciate your feedback and take these inquiries seriously.

Gun-related deals, including shooting ranges, conceal-and-carry, and clay shooting, are on hiatus as we review our internal policies for the types of deals that we feature. Groupon has always aimed to offer deals driven by local consumer preference and request; at this time, enough consumers have asked us to eliminate the category that we believe a review is warranted. A decision has not yet been made.

Please note that all existing purchases for gun-related Groupons are still valid and deals that were previously offered are not being canceled.

Thank you again for contacting us, and please let me know if I can do anything else to help.

What a bunch of idiots! People actually write and tell them to stop offering these deals? If you don't like it, don't buy it! [Bang]

May not be liberals, but they're terrified of the lawyers at the very least. The business needs to weigh the pros and cons of what the lawyers tell them vs the bad publicity and loss of business.

There is nothing lawyers have to do with this other than a bunch of Obama supporters running Groupon. There is no legal issue with them having a groupon that is for a ccw class or a shooting range. Liability is the same as when they have a groupon for a paintball field, trampoline places, or even a crossfit gym. Simple fact is they are using the company to further political views.

^^^ This. Most businesses are neither conservative nor liberal. Most businesses respond to profits and losses and will shift product lines if there is a danger of losing customers or incurring liabilities that exceed the profits they would have gained.

Jim is the Sgt Donny Donowitz from Inglorious Bastards, when it comes to reposts. You know when they are intimidating their prisoners, before he walks out of a tunnel banging his baseball bat against walls before he is actually seen. Right before he just bashes that first guys head in. Yup, that the rep Jim is getting about these reposts notices.

Maybe Andrew Mason had a dispute with BOD regarding gun-related deal on Groupon, and got ousted.
