The backstrap safety on my 1911 is not working. I do not have to be holding the grip to pull the trigger and have the hammer drop. Taurus, of course, will fix the problem, but by the time I have paid for shipping there and back I may be able to have a local smith repair it and help keep an American job. That being said I am seeking the sage advise of the board as to a possible problem and repair.
I dont have a single 1911 (and I have quite a few) thats grip safety works.
Of course I like them that way.
The original 1911 design did not have a grip safety. JMB added it at the Armys request.
Its not an easy fix if too much has been machined off the safety foot notch.
Contact a gunsmith or send it back...
did it work before?? did anyone do any work on it??
I'd find a gunsmith that is trusted and have them look at it..its nothing complicated if you've been in inside a 1911 before..

I have had it since July. I test fired it today and was getting FTF. I would reload the round and it would fire. With those 2 things I think I will just send it in.

I have yet to send it in. (Along with the last 3 weeks invoices for my company, but they suck[see other thread])
Best saftey is your mind and your trigger finger.
I say anything that impedes the gun from firing if you really need it to is probobly a bad thing.
I say keep it as is...

I wouldn't care about the backstrap so much, but the failure to fire bothers me greatly.
aye if it doesnt go bang when you pull the trigger i'd say send it in to taurus
