I come to you today having learned a lesson. [Stick]

I went on faith from a what looked like a decent website's low prices for a hard to find (atleast locally) Leupold scope base and rings, even though I couldn't find a phone number to ask for their help I saw the base I needed on Leupold's own suggestion of the correct part.

One week after ordering the parts came. I noticed rigt away that the packaging used was obviously a hand cut one foot square box easily weighing 5 times the weight of the base and rings. A little itch in the back of my head said, "Uh oh, wonder if this is some guy in his basement?".

Well it turned out that the part was not correct either in hole spacing and fit to the receiver of my 1917 Carl Gustaf Swede. I opened the Leupold hard plastic case lined up the base and right away was able to see it would not work. I went to the website again since there was also no phone number other than a fax on the receipt... Found their "Customer Service" email address and here's how it went (start reading these emails from the bottome up, this is how Outlook records the email history):

John,

I will call Leupold, hopefully they will assist me. You should know that I intend to let people know about your unfortunate and unreasonable policy primarily because it’s a well known fact that Leupold sells bases and rings in re-sealable hard plastic packaging. To consider something used for merely opening and handling the base is quite ridiculous. Leupold will hear about you. You can be sure no more of my business will come your way. You should reconsider this policy and also that you used a hand cut 1 foot square box that most likely weighed five times the base and ring weight to ship this in. I hesitated to order from you when I saw you offered no phone number either for questions or issues on your website, I should have heeded my hesitation as good sense.

Thank you for your time

Not once it is opened. We don't sell used parts any more so we wouldn't be able to use it. I would call Leupold first and see what they say. They have amazing customer service. Call them and see what they can do for you first.

I am very sorry.

John,

I didn't mount it, I lined up the holes. It wouldn't get to a mountable point. Can you still take it back?

Rafael

Hello,

Unfortunatly, when a part is mounted on the rifle, it is no longer returnable. If you called Leupold and they gave you the wrong info, I would go directly to them and see if they will swap it for you first. They are generally very good about things like that. Their number is 1-800-538-7653. Speak to a technichal support rep and tell them your situation.

Please let us know what happens.

Thank you. We are very sorry for the incovenience.

Hi,
I received the base I ordered. Turns out Leupold didn't give me the right model number. I've got a Carl Gustav Swede but the base is incorrectly sitting on my receiver. Can I give you a call or can you tell me what I need to do to get the right part or a return on this?

OK so here's a good twist, I called the shop I bought the rifle from "Gunsport" in Boulder Colorado and Ross - who sold me the thing - said to bring in the base and he'll order me a new one and take mine in trade. Wow, nothing like local service and a good effort. Hats off to Ross.
