Colt Model Le 6920 M4‏

So I’m thinking of buying one of these: COLT MODEL LE 6920 M4‏. However before I commit to it would anyone recommend the same rifle but different manufacturer?

Bad experiences with Colt, over priced etc etc.

I did try searching but didn’t find anything specific.

Bushmaster and RRA each would have a similar offering, main difference would be the 1/9 barrel. Which may or may not be important to you. There is enthusiastic discussion on certain other boards about reliability differences among brands (mostly anecdotal) but most reasonable folks would agree that either of these two make good factory rifles.

There is no such thing as a bad 6920. If I had the money I'd buy at least one. They are expensive because they are the Gold standard.

But if you don't want a Colt, try an LMT. Buy a complete LMT lower and then add an LMT upper. Buy them seperatly and save 11% in FET. I would recommend that you get an upper from Bravo Company. And for lowers, you can try Jensen's in Loveland. Or order from one of the online vendors and have it shipped to your favorite FFL.

There are of course other options for lowers, but LMT is hard to beat. I own some Bushmasters and a Stag. I'm happy with them. But my next gun will be an LMT, with the possibility of a S&W M&P thrown in there. (Rifle that is. Although I now want a M&P pistol too.)

If you order the LMT 14.5 inch upper, you'll need to put something on the end to make it legal, unless you SBR the gun. I recommend the SDI extended A2 flash hiders. LMT also makes a 16" M4 if you don't want to deal with the whole SBR thing.

If you are not in a hurry, and who knows how long it will take, you can order a BCM upper from Bravo Company. I'm running one of their 16" M4 uppers.

The LMT and BCM uppers are as close to mil-spec, and or Colt quality as you can get without buying Colt.

The Smith & Wesson AR15s aka M&P15 are good rifles if your not looking to build one, But they're little pricey as you are paying for a "Big" brand name gun. I have one of the earlier models of the M&P15T, which were really made by STAG, well at least there Uppers are. Still haven't found out who made the lower, probably STAG too. And since I "converted" it to a my Compitition gun, I'm starting to notice little flaws here and there which get real irriating during a match. But when I was using it as a weekend shooter it was flawless.

The New Smith & Wesson Rifles are acctually made by them now, and what I heard is they "tuned" alot of the flaws out that plagued their early gen AR's.

Don't get me wrong even the earlier model Rifles are built Very well over alot of the other "BIG" brand names. But if your looking for something more then a personal protection weapon or a weekend plinger, you might just be better off "Building" a rifle.

I just got a couple into the shop and they are as nice as anything I've seen. Haven't shot one yet but I have no reason to believe they wouldn't perform as well as they look.

For $500 to $600 less than a Colt, not to mention availability issues of the Colt, I'd give this one a look.

BTW: recievers are made by DoubleStar, barrels by Wilson or Shaw depending on the model.

I guess I'm the only poor slob that got one. A Colt MT6400C was (until I recently sold it) the most accurate of my ARs so I saved my pennies and bought a 6920. It turned out to be the least accurate of any of my ARs.
