I need to find a class for the wife that may be more woman oriented. The wife wants to get her permit but she is not comfortable with some of the larger classes that are held around Colorado Springs. She has been shooting quite a bit with me but unfortunately my military weapons training comes out of me when we run through drills and she does not like it. So any info about any class or people who do one on one training for the permit would be great. Would like to stay as close to Colorado Springs as possible but would travel a little ways for the right instructor. Thanks.

RW Swainson is the best class you will ever get. Worth it 100%. And shooting live fire/holster drills with someone as experienced as Bob even the "experts" will learn something new. Great teacher, lots of patience with both women and men.

2nd. I plan for my wife to go through his class. I've seen him work with new female shooters at his range, well done!

There are Industry Partners, as well as Admins on this site that offer classes, too.

I suppose you've looked into Whistling Pines Gun Club...but in case not, they hold women-only classes, you don't need to be a member of the club, they classes qualify you for CCW, and the schedule is online. I would expect that getting into a class anytime soon might be a challenge. However, in part because they only have 10 lanes total at the range, classes will be limited I believe to around 7 students. In any case, they have (or at least had) two classes: one is the NRA pistol safety course and is a '101' sort of "this is a handgun" level courses. I wouldn't recommend that one to anyone who's had fairly strict coaching in the 4 Rules of Gun Safety and has been around the block; the second class is your 201 level and also meets the requirements but may be a little more in-depth and useful.
The club itself is exceptional IMO and just the sort of enviornment I'd expect she'd be very comfortable in for regular practice in membership were ever an option.
At the time I got my CCW in El Paso my understanding is the Sheriff's Dept was fairly strict on requiring the qualifying class be given by a certified NRA Instructor.
We would be happy to offer you some more information if you are interested.
We offer womens only classes usually once a month.
