Sorry if someone brought this up in a thread I haven't seen...

I just traded emails with Greg Brophy (Colorado Senate district 1), he has introduced a bill to remove the background check requirement at time of firearms purchase for those who hold a Colorado CHP. Steve Humphrey (House 48, I think that's Greeley???) is sponsering the bill in the House. Similar bill passed in 2009, but Ritter vetoed it... Get on your congressmen and also get on Hick to try to get at least this passed.

I think we have a serious uphill battle in Colorado to fight the bans and stupidity that is flowing out, but lets do what we can to push good, helpful bills, that way those who vote against these bills can be asked why they didn't support "common sense" gun bills...

I wouldn't be suprised to see citizen initiated pro gun initiatives next November...

Utah has that. It makes sense. Not only would it does speed up the process but save money that is being spent running these checks.

It will expand a firearm owner/purchasers rights.

Snowballs chance in hell of it passing.

We had it once before, briefly, but it was in effect.

Wont ever happen, again, in Colorado -- for the same reason we have the CBI checks in addition to NICS.....

"What if someone killed a baby a week ago? If they had a permit they could just buy a gun without anyone knowing..."

Blah blah blah...

This will die in committee, unfortunately. The issue with this is that permits are issued by the counties, not the state, so they are not compliant with NICS standards. For CO to enact this would require changes to the current CHP system to provide for state issuance.

And Hick won'y do this, even though it's "common sense"...

Here in WY I just show my CFP, sign my name, and walk out with a gun. It's pretty awesome, fortunately we don't have the problem of mass liberal migration in our state.

Kansas is also one of the States that does this.

You don't have that problem... Yet. But Teton county was looking a little blue last election....

There are too many antis who think that anyone who wants to own an AR or carry concealed is already unstable. They'll want checks each time just so they can ensure that we don't trip the coming mental health checks for each background check.

It would be nice since the CHP has to pass a CBI check anyway. But, like others said, it has little chance of even seeing a vote at this time.

Thank you- why did it take so long for someone to mention that not only do you need a CBI check (which isn't any different than a 4473 check) but also a CLEO sign off... I doubt this will make it, but it's worth a shot.
