Walmart in Elizabeth now has an Emergency Preparedness Center which they are carrying a full line of Augason Farms Freeze dried food in the #10 can, smaller cans, 5 gallon buckets, variety pack kits, and t of other supplies. The prices are great. I picked up a couple cans of honey powder which is 3lbs per can for $10.76 a can and good for 30years. There were a few other people there picking up serval cans as well. They had a large supply of the stuff check it out I took a pics of one section with my phone and will post it later

That's cool. I'll have to see if either of the WMs in Greeley are carrying anything.

I told a buddy who called around and could not find any in Colorado Springs. I heard the Parker store had some but went by today and could not find any. The Emergency Preparedness center is at the front of store in its own room. Here is a pic did not want to be noticed by Big Brother. Make sure to use cash when buying though

and they had more than that

The one in Parker or the one on Parker near Chambers?

Wulf, make sure you check on your honey regularly, if it crystalizes you need to heat and mix is up, the separation of the sugars and liquid can cause microbial growth in the liquid. Honey, water and yeast is all you need for preps. [Lick]

The Walmart in Parker. I didnt think about the one at chambers. Why yeast when you can grow your own. I have been researching growing my own bread yeast. Has anyone ever done it?

You can but here is a thought. Active yeast that is mylar vacuumed packed can be stored in the freezer almost forever. The clock does not start until you bring it back to room temp.

Currently using yeast that is stored in the fridge that I took out of the freezer last year. The 1lb brick I took it from expired in 09. I have 5lbs in the freezer. It is the one item I keep there and so far from mine and others testing once I take it out of the freezer it will be good for at least 2 years. [Flower]

Can you buy Yeast that way or do I have to place yeast in Mylar bag and then place in vacuum sealer bag then seal? and if so do I use O2 absorber in bag?

1lb bricks of yeast, already in mylar, readily available at Sams Club and other large container sellers. I do the same as jerrymrc, keep a few in the deep freezer.

I use dried wine and brewer's yeast sold in individual packets that I put in vacuum sealed bags with an O2 absorber then tossed in the freezer. I also used the same process with hop pellets and have larger sealed bags of malted barley packed away with dried malt extract in kits for different beers. I'm guessing the same could be done with baker's yeast sold as active dry yeast in little packets too.

Spoke to a Manger at the Walmart in Parker yesterday so stated he heard the emergency preparedness center items are selling well in the Walmart in Elizabeth and other Walmarts around the country and they are probably going to start carrying the stuff along with other walmarts in Colorado. So everyone needs to keep requesting the items from there local Walmarts

what kind of prices are we looking at in regards to higher priced items of theirs?

tactical_2012
01-24-2013, 14:54
The prices were actually good they are carrying a ton of the Augason Farms stuff. They had 30pound buckets of sugar and averaged about a dollar a pound. 10# cans of cheese for around $15 etc

Just went to Augason farms website and Walmart is carrying the items for a lot cheaper than what they are selling it on there website

tmckay2

interesting. did they have entrees and stuff too or just the bulk essentials? might even be worth a trip there if cheaper than online.

tactical_2012
01-24-2013, 20:47
They also were selling the entrees in #10 cans and had vegetarian meat substitute, bread mixes, pancake mixes, brownie mixes, muffin mica, fruits, veggies, and had some Gluten free items

No wonder my Augason Farms orders are taking weeks to ship. Stocking Walmart comes first I guess.

Hollohas Walmarts prices are way cheaper than buying direct from Augason Farms

I have been buying direct from them for a long time but didn't know any Walmart carried their stuff until now. I typically only buy on sale stuff. I don't mind buying from Walmart at all and may start to do just that. I am sure the Walmart prices are better because they can absorb the shipping costs easier. Augason Farms has flat rate shipping but $11.99 doesn't even come close to covering the costs of shipping 100lbs of goods so they increase the sell price of each item.

Costco carries some of their larger supplies at very good prices too. However I don't always like what comes in the large "kits"

Anyone familar with thier 6 month 1 person supply kit? Trying to decide between those and the 30 day buckets...

Wulf202

Pretty much all the kits have starvation levels of nutrition but can be supplinented.

Timnanth only sells the small packages / individual size. it's 1-2 over (to the south) of their reloading area.
