View Full Version : VT Gun Ban Bill collapses, is withdrawn
MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — The majority leaders of the Vermont state Senate says he's withdrawing a bill that would have reinstated in Vermont a now-expired federal assault weapons ban.
Democratic Sen. Philip Baruth, of Chittenden County, says there's not enough support among his colleagues and there's mounting opposition from outside the Statehouse.
Baruth's bill also would have capped the number of rounds in a gun's magazine to five.
Vermont Public Radio (http://bit.ly/10Mebfn ) is reporting that Baruth sent a statement to his colleagues Sunday saying he would abandon the legislation.

"bill also would have capped the number of rounds in a gun's magazine to five" thus banning all but 2% of all guns.

What happened in VT and what's starting to happen across the country (fingers crossed) is a unilateral opposition to gun restrictions, with potential for confiscation. NY wanting to be FIRST for bragging rights, realized afterwards that OOPS we just made felons out of LE once off duty. I believe the new "sensible gun laws" in NY will soon be (if not this week) challenged under a Heller v. DC SC ruling.
Combined with the looming 2014 mid term elections. A few moderate dems realize the empowered anti gun faction may have over reached itself.

I'm trying to remain optimistic while continuing to write letters.

Agreed! Colorado seems more likely to want to follow the progressive policies of the Left Coast and states like WA and CA than enact anything that might actually relate to the demographics of this state. Pot anyone? Maybe some gay marriage with that?

I think government needs to respect the fundamental right of all citizens to be left the fuck alone. Personally, I do not care if some hippies want to smoke pot in the privacy of their own home, or if a couple of queers want to get married . . . and I'd have a serious problem with anyone who thought kicking in their doors and dragging them off to jail would be a good idea because they don't respect the privacy of their neighbors. Government needs to focus on important issues that effect the nation as a whole: the economy, unemployment, pollution, unsafe foods or drugs, immigration, and international affairs. Religious dogma and personal opinion needs to be absent from legislation, especially if it pertains to a non-issue that the majority of citizens oppose government involvement in.

We really need to be worried about Colorado's gun laws. I have continued to write weekly to all of these gubment asshats, we cannot give it away! Never give up! If they do get it voted in, then we still have to oppose it LOUDLY but hope our work will keep it from happening to begin with.
