I have a large fish aquarium that I am trying to sell and the buyer offered up a Saiga 12 for trade. First off I am asking $800 for the setup so is that a fair trade value assuming condition is mint? He said he has only shot it twice and bought it new a few months ago. It aslo comes with a drum mag. Is there anything I need to ask him or need to know when I look at the shotgun? Are these a good weapon for getting into three gun Competitions? Like I said school me lol. I have plenty of experience with the AR platform but I have never dealt with the AK style weapons. thanks!

Has it been converted? Either way I would say it is worth it. Especially with the drum mag. Have to be careful with the mags to stay compliant so be careful.

I don't think it's been converted. I can ask though. Are they good shotguns?? is this something that is prone to a lot of problems and are they picky about ammo?

Might need a little tweaking to run low brass loads. But if it was well taken care of, you got a good deal. Don't let it slip away.
And if you want to do the conversion, see Bert with BP Tactical. He is an Artiest at converting them.

For 3gun the detachable mag is going to put you in open class, so unless you have the pistol and rifle setup for open as well you are either going to be at a disadvantage or wind up spending some more money to bring those up to open level.
If the drum is an MD Arms 20 you are good to go, otherwise you may experience some problems with it.
It takes some work to get them to run reliably with a wide variety of ammo and you are probably going to want a choke solution of some kind for competition.
All that being said, I love mine and they are a ton of fun.

The saiga will bring you more return in 6 months that the fish ever will. An unconverted saiga is still running $499-599 The drum mag is running $150+- how many 5 and or 10 round mags does he have with the pkg?

He said it's converted but how do I check for myself?? It will only be worth more in six months if the currant legislation on the table allows me to sell it [Bang]...
thanks for all the info this far!

When they're converted the trigger group is moved forward and a grip is where the trigger group used to be. So the grip will be attached to the receiver.

It looks like a regular AK not some hunting rifle. keep in mind, they may have converted the butt stock and trigger group but not the hand guard area. ALSO check to see if they used 922 compliant replacement parts. If you need any more info the web has numerous sites detailing saiga 12 conversions, price for parts and other informative reads.
