6/10 Kinda cryptic, it took me too long to discern what you were ranting about. Not enough blame being passed. Not long enough. +1 for the banana ass-pounding image. Should have ranted on your 1,000th post.

I've gotta go with a 4/10 because I couldn't figure out what the hell he was talking about the first two times I read it. The other possibility is that my reading comprehension blows.

Reading these kind of posts reminds me that I was damn lucky to have retired in 1992. I never feel guilty getting my little monthly retirement checks because I paid my fair share into that damn Social Security ( actually was Railroad Retirement) and our Government did a fine job of pissing so much of it away in a careless manner.[Bang]

You should never feel guilty getting your monthly retirement checks You worked for it . The new thing is not to work for it and some how we owe them.I do not mind helping a person that is down but some one that take advantage of the system is B.S and congers not addressing the problem just compounding it
I honestly wish I could opt out of all the above and save the money for myself. I don't think i will ever see any of it come back to me.

Work as an "independent contractor"/ under the table for years and make good money doing it. Then around 60 or so become "Disabled' and apply for SSI. You never paid into the system but now you get $2K per month plus medicare.
Seen it first hand. [Bang] I see 58% of my gross after everything is taken out. [shit-happens] Just a thought.
I find it ridiculous that I have to work until I am 67 to receive benefits that I pay for. Mostly because the men in my family tend to die between 60 and 65.

I rate your rant as 4/10 as well - disjointed, hard to follow. I also couldn't figure out why you were ranting about Congress raising the retirement age, which they haven't done (but probably will have to if they want to keep SS solvent in the future).

When Social Security was enacted in 1935, you couldn't recieve benefits until age 65 and life expectancy for men was 59, women was 63. So the plan all along was for the majority of payers to never collect. As health care and thus life expectancy have improved, Social Security has barely changed - you can opt for lower benefits at 62 or hold on until 67 for "full" benefits. That's why it's going broke - more people collecting benefits than the system can support. Personally, I'm not counting on SS being there for me. I'm just hoping the government will still be able to pay my Navy reserve retirement when the time comes. You'd better be saving your own money for your own retirement.
