Jake McNiece passed away at the age of 93. He was part of the "Filthy 13" who jumped into occupied France before the DDay invasion to blow up a bridges to prevent the Germans from resupplying their lines. Jake was part of a trip back to Bastone in 2005 with the Greatest Generations Foundation which is based here in Denver. I was not fortunate enough to meet Jake through the foundation but nevertheless rest in peace soldier, thank you for your service and may God bless you in the next life.

Excert from Wiki on Mr. McNiece

Jake McNiece considered that any activities not directly concerned with killing the enemy were irrelevant. This attitude caused him to be in constant trouble with the military authorities. Nevertheless, McNiece finished the war with four combat jumps, a very rare feat for an American paratrooper. His jumps were made in Normandy (http://www.ar-15.co/wiki/Mission_Albany), Holland as part of Market Garden (http://www.ar-15.co/wiki/Operation_Market_Garden), the Pathfinder jump into Bastogne, Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge (http://www.ar-15.co/wiki/Battle_of_the_Bulge), then his last jump as an observer with the 17th Airborne Division (http://www.ar-15.co/wiki/17th_Airborne_Division_(United_States)) during Operation Varsity (http://www.ar-15.co/wiki/Operation_Varsity).

I didn't hear anything about this--but I heard that Michelle Obama has a new hairdo.

Thanks for posting this.

This is a great line: "McNiece never achieved a rank higher than first sergeant because he had trouble with regulations and extending his leaves without permission."
