I was curious as to the process to get your C & R license:

What is the cost:

How long does it stay valid:

What is the renewal cost:

What can you buy:

Do you pay taxes on items you buy:

If you buy a C&R, can you re-sell it and does it have to be through a FFL:

If buying a C&R off the net (i.e. AIMsurplus), will it get shipped to you or does it have to go through a FFL still:

Around $ 30 every three years, just keep records for all transactions.

Shipped straight to your door.

Send a signed copy to MidwayUSA and some others and they'll set you up with dealer prices on all your orders and ammo.

Mine pays for itself many times over and gives you alot more options.

what you can buy: any firearm 50 years old or older AND anything listed on the C&R list published by the ATF. Brownells and Midway (to name only two) will give you dealer pricing if you supply them a copy of your FFL.

you can sell, but you must not be in the business of buying and selling firearms. Keep records of all your transactions (a requirement anyway)


when YOU buy a firearm with your FFL, you can have it delivered to the location listed on the license. (see the 'what can you buy' above)

remember, when you receive your FFL, DO NOT SIGN THE ORIGINAL, make copies and sign those when you need to provide one. I just make a high resolution .pdf and print out what I need, sign it and send it along.



when you fill out the paperwork, remember that you have to send a copy to your local Cheif Law Enforcement Officer. I haven't heard of any issues by anyone for this requirement. they either round file 'em or put you on record :)

Checkout www.surplusrifle.com . There are some good guides on there about getting your C&R. You'll also find links to milsurp dealers. I've had mine for about 4 years now and it is well worth the $30. You'll get discounts at Brownells, Midway, Graf and Sons, and Numrich gun parts. The market for the milsurps is pretty dry at the moment but that changes.
