View Full Version : There is something poetic about Beyonce lip-syncing the National Anthem during the Inauguration

So the Marine Corps Band faked playing and Beyonce lip-synced. I'm not surprised by any of it but it's just SO poetic and representative of Obama's entire presidency ...

I read that and thought the same kind of thing. Perception is reality for some folks...this guy is a perfect example.

Did she at least grab her crotch?

Seems odd that both Beyonce and the Marine Corps Band would fake the national anthem.

I do not like Beyonce, never have, never will... she's like nails on a chalkboard- both talking and singing... and she's not that pretty. Typical though, fake singing for a fake president.

Not as a big a deal as it's being made out to be, everyone knows she can sing just fine. This was a logistical decision:

Recording musical performances prior to inauguration ceremonies are a necessity in case something should go awry, says DuBois. "You can't have an inaugural without the National Anthem."

American cellist Yo-Yo Ma was forced to use a pre-recording during President Obama's first Inaugural four years ago, due to frigid temperatures.

"We all know Beyonce can sing and the Marine Band can play," DuBois said. "I've been with the band 14 years. It's not unusual," DuBois added.

Didn't say it was a big deal, just that it was poetic.

I hear ya. ;) No biggie.

I just keep my criticism of Obama separate from Beyonce since she has actual (R&B) talent, compared to most of the craptacular pop music idiots you hear nowadays, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, boy bands, etc. Plus I wouldn't wanna criticize the Marines Band.

The Marine Corps band doesn't costist of Marines BTW with exception of the drum majors

Didn't know that. But thanks for the clarification.

The Marine Band recruits experienced musicians (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musician); members are selected through a rigorous audition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audition) procedure and must satisfy additional security and physical requirements to be eligible. Selected band members serve under a four-year contract as active duty (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_duty)enlisted (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enlisted_rank) Marines and are subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uniform_Code_of_Military_Justice) and physical standards. They are the only members of the United States Armed Forces (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Armed_Forces) not required to undergo recruit training (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recruit_training) and do not perform combat missions. Also, they are not assigned to any unit other than the Marine Band.
The band members start at the rank of Staff Sergeant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staff_Sergeant), and wear rank insignia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Marine_Corps_enlisted_rank_insignia) with a lyre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyre) replacing the normal crossed rifles. Commissioned officers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Officer_(armed_forces)) are drawn from the band, although Drum Majors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drum_Major) are career Marines and are selected from Fleet Marine Force (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fleet_Marine_Force) bands, as they are responsible for the military development of the band's members.

As far as I'm concerned, signing a contract and just showing up while getting E-6 pay while in a non combat band unit, doesn't make a Marine.

I didn't know that either. If you didn't go through bootcamp and earn the title, you aren't a Marine.

Except Navy Corpsman - the ones I served with were some hard-charging mother F'ers. They are Honorary Marines as far as I'm concerned.

I find it quite fitting! Might as well ask Milli Vanilli to sing...

SPAM- Shitbags Posing As Marines... that's what he meant by band fags. I don't think he means that all band folk are fags or bad for that matter...

Yes Sir,
I am a little touchy. I try and teach humanity to some down and out folks through the means of music. It's a constant fight I have. I fight for budget, I fight to turn the attitude of musicians are "band fags", I fight parents not giving a rats butt about their own offspring, I fight kids who don't give a crap, I fight it all. On top of it, I fight myself as I tried my hardest to do my duty but due to health reasons after the stupid car wreck in high school I was not able. I "WON" several very high profile auditions (including the '09 opening in THE Presidents Own band) but could never sign the papers due to my "problems". I can still run, jump, and shoot so I never understood their rebuttals. But by God, do I envy those musicians in all the branches who are able to put on the uniform and do what I can only dream of. Maybe I am a bit touchy, so I apologize. I just think we can find better ways to express it than "band fags". I understand your position, but man... Anyways, I have a class to go teach.

Who cares, I doubt those guys are running around town pretending to be "real Marines", or taking credit for going through bootcamp or into combat. They probably honor and appreciate the real Marines as much as anyone. And they fulfil a service that might not otherwise be able to be filled by "real" Marines.

You'd still toss her ankles over your ears if you had the chance, IF.

OK -- now back to our National Anthem. I am a firm believer that ANYONE who butchers up (adds their own extra notes/words to) our National Anthem should be taken behind the shit house or wood pile and get smacked around royally. I guess that's just the "old school" way of thinking. There are a few songs that should NOT be tampered with and this is one of them.....OK you Liberals and non-believers, flame away.[blaster]

I've read a few articles about her lip syncing and it seems that it's done sometimes for a ceremony to prevent any glitches. I didn't know until yesterday that Whitney Houston's acclaimed Super Bowl performance was indeed a lip sync performance. Not a big deal either way JMHO

Eeew, good god no! The moment she opened her mouth I'd put in my Surefire ear pro! [Coffee]
Besides, I wouldn't do anything with Jay-Z's girl friend, he's unpredictable... not sure if he'd go gangsta on me or use his infinite riches to ruin my life somehow. [LOL]

So, this is what constitutes hard-nose journalism and investigative news these days, huh? Who says our country is doomed?
