Out of state right now and a bit of a drive from denver, but do you have a link to info on it. What distances do they have for Long Range shooting? Do they limit caliber or ammo (Hope they allow M855)?

Thanks,
Looks like a great site. Out to 600 yds on the rifle range is pretty good. I am still hoping to find a range that has steel out to 1500yds.
They say no armor piercing ammo, but I hope they don't try and classify M855 as AP like some ranges do as I like faster twist rate barrels.

it messes up steel

It doesn't if you are using the proper steel. 3/8th armor plating at 100+ yds does not dent

i have dozens of AR 500 targets. from 3/8 inch to 1/2". if you shoot them with penetrators, it will fuck them up.
me too it may not poke holes but it splashes the steel

It is and they will. even mild steel core will mess up targets. Had someone shoot 5.54 at my steel once and I was not a happy camper.
I am still hoping to find a range that has steel out to 1500yds. The sniper course in Raton can be set up that way but not open to the public except for matches. I know of no range in the area that goes past 1000 but I may be wrong.
In the end I believe that your wants would mean buying the land and shooting your steel targets with any ammo you choose. Just a thought.
I went out there this afternoon after work. I had my 243 and 338 with me. I was hoping to get in some long range shooting. No dice shooting at the targets out past 300. Not today anyway. So I shot a few dirt clods at 300 and educated a few Fudds on Suppressor ownership.
It is a very nice facility for sure. I will still go to Pueblo or Frontier south most of the time, but having this as an option is nice.
As far as steel core on AR-500 steel targets goes, there is a reason why it is **not** allowed at matches. In addition to the fact that it is not very accurate.

I'm thinking about going next Saturday. Anyone interested in joining me?
One question though: on their site, they specify that you need to have an empty chamber indicator in each firearms empty chamber during a cold range. I don't have any ECIs... is this gonna be a problem?

They will provide them. Just a simple pink zip tie thingie.
Stopped on the way out of the gate today, really nice range.

Yes sir, I use 1/2' for my 1k yd targets and myself and Islandermyk shot them at 100yds with m855 and it does put a pretty significant ding in the steel

I would love to go if my son's b-day wasn't Saturday
Drove through it today, lots of folks there. Hoser, do they have steel targets past 300 yards on one of the ranges?
Noticed a "no guns even if concealed" sign inside the office/trailer.

They have rifle caliber restrictions. No 338 50 cal and several other calibers. It has something to do with odd fed regulations on post.
So their Facebook says they have steel out to 1000, I must have missed those. Which of the ranges has them and what do I have to do to be allowed to shoot them?

A lot of the stuff is still in progress. They have told me several differnt things about the longer range. Today I heard it will be limited to 300 then 500 then 800 yards. It is only on the Sheriff's Office range which is closed to the public except on weekends.
I do know they have some good plans that should be coming soon.

I will have to go today and take a look.
The long range rifle targets are at the far south end range. The targets are on the hillside going up the ravine. They look to be 18x18. They asked that I not shoot at them as they were not 100% sure I was allowed to.
They do restrict shooting to caliber that calibers that can shoot further than 4100 meters. That rules out the 50 and maybe the 338 Lapua. I heard a guy so no Ultra mags, but not Lapua mags...

The South range is The Sheriff's range. I have heard a bunch of different things about what will be allowed and how far out. So far its open and its what Range control is comfortable with. It is very much a work in progress.
i am very glad to see it and they have some good plans to expand it.

What's the Facebook page?
Just search Cheyenne mountain shooting complex.
Word from their Facebook is no full auto. Gazette published this pic which looks like full auto, but probably only allowed for LE.

If you have the proper paperwork they should should require you to demonstrate proper control of the weapon before its alowed, but banning them sucks.
