View Full Version : The Tanner

Did anyone else go this last Sunday?

Wow, I haven't had my hopes up for the Tanner in a long damn time, but I was surprised at the disappointment this round.

Naturally, there's the usual gun show lingerers present. .
Navajo Joe was there selling worthless trinkets and horse blankets, and of course the two morbidly obese women selling beef jerky ( I think they ate more than they sold. )

One guy had some beat to Hell M1 carbines for $900 each. There were also numerous M1903's and M1917's for $800+, and M1's for over a grand. All of the ammunition there must have been gold jacketed, or at least it should have been for those prices. .

The highlight of the evening was the one fellow who wanted to trade an Israeli night vision scope for a Lady Smith. Gee, I wonder if it still worked?

And what gun show can be complete without the Stun-Gun guy? I swear, that thing was going off every other minute. For a moment there, I was contemplating on whether or not to scream out in pain just to make it seem like someone got shocked.[Tooth]

All in all, I walked out of there with some 7.62x54R, some 9mm, and a soft pistol case.

If you missed out, well, consider it $6 well saved. .

The deals at gun shows are few and far between any more. The internet is the way to go nowadays for deals and sales.A sign of the times I guess.

What you didn't buy the little old ladies casserole dish warmer.

I did go and for the first time in 2 years bought something useful. At least I think I am going to love them.......

I bought a set of those form fitted silicone earplugs that those two girls are always selling. I had considered it for years and finally broke down.

I guess it depends on what you are looking for..I went Saturday. I picked up 550 .223 once fired brass cleaned and polished for 28.00. Reloading components have skyrcketed. Dads wholesale had 1000 WSR,s for 26.00. Those have been hard to find at any price lately. One guy had pmags out the door for 14.00. I scored a 20" barrel with Colt A2 handguards, gastube, and flashider for 170.00 out the door. Delta ring 3.00. Speer reloading manual 12.00. That was everything on my list so it wasn't a bad haul. I've just learned to never go there looking for great deals on collectable weapons.

Ray at sew what had pmags for like 24.95.....I asked "is that 2 for 1?" He said he could do 20.00 each. 2 for 1 and he would have closed the deal!

I took the wife on Saturday and the only thing we bought was rock candy from Mountain Man but the show was packed & it looked like 5280 & a couple other dealers were selling many guns.

There was a guy a few shows ago selling Pmags for $27 each.(non window) I just hate to see people dealing with folks like that because they don't know any better. That guy Ray has come up on a few forums now,I'd be real leery of dealing with him !!!

I was there Sunday from 9:30 till about 11:30. There were 4-5 tables still covered. One of them must have been the stun gun guy. It was quiet. It wasn't real busy.

I found matching numbers Iszevek(sp?) Moisin Nagant 91/30 with a laminated stock. It has the Ukraine refurbished stamp on the stock and a square stamped on the receiver under the 1942 and the serial number. It is not a complete square but I think it is a refurbish mark. I'm still researching it. It has nice blueing on it and had the bayonet and the accessories kit. The oil can is rectangular not the round one. I used my C&R and purchased it for $120. The bore looks good and I think it will be a good shooter.

I also found a possibly unissued CZ52 pistol with no peen marks on the pins and a good finish. Luckily I hadn't brought enough cash to get it. I took the MN to the pickup. It seemed like a lot of people did a double take of the bayonet I had put on the end of the barrel when I carried it out. That is one long rifle! It kind of completes my collection of a MN m38, a MN m91/59, and now MN m91/30.

I came back in and bought 4 "fat 50" ammo cans. They were $10.00 each and they were in really good shape.

I had not been to Tanner for a while and I thought there were some new venders there. I go with no expectations and cruise around doing laps untill I spot something. I do see a lot of stuff over and over. Why not drop the price to resonable and get rid of it? Some of that stuff has thousands of miles on it in and out of the show. My 2 cents.

If your lookin for a great deal on a gun just check out gunbroker.com and pay the 20$ transfer fee the ffl charges... cheaper than state taxes anyways.... I get great deals on that site. Got an working m1 garand for 350$ +30S&H +20FFL in pretty good shape, not matching but hey... what can I expect for 400?

I was there on Saturday and saw several guys selling reloading components. I considered getting some primers and powder to save on the hazmat fees, but didn't have any prices in my head to know if what they had was worth it.

I was set up good crowd Sunday afternoon. I noticed lowers were very pricey on most tables.
I know why I didn't like doing shows in Denver, most dealers are Aholes. Out here in the west it's much more mellower.
