I find myself surfing craigslist today for a new bike but I already have one. I have a 2006 dr650 that I traded a winchester model 700 and when I got it it was crashed, the forks were bent front wheel and tire were trashed and it needed some lights well. WWell Ive had it togeter now for a about a year and I probly put 100 offroad miles miles on it at my familys property in fairplay and the thing is a beast one of the funest bikes Ive riden. My plan in the begining was to get it on the road but Ive been slacking. So the bike is done I have a miror, lights, and a salvage title that is in my brothers name (he is who I traded with). What hoops do I need to jump through and what will be the cost?

I thought you had to stamp rebuilt from salvage and a few other things before CSP

Please, call your insurance agent first!

Some companies won't write even a liability policy for salvage titles. Removing the salvage title designation is well, really hard.

I have gieco right now but if thats a problem I will just find someone who will insure it. also another thing I have thought about was buying a frame with a title or another bike with a blown motor with a clean title just havent found one yet.

Better course of action IMHO. Years ago, when I was building race cars, I successfully converted slavage titles on flood cars and some wrecked cars, but I had to certify the frames. If it was not for building race cars, they would not have let me do it myself.

Get the current title signed over to you and go to the dmv with proof of insurance and pay your money.
The salvage will stay on the new title.

ebay.

Just as long as you have the actual title on hand (even saying salvage title) you should be able to register it and you can insure it... liability only!

Have your brother write up a bill of sale and head to the dmv with the title on hand... and that should be it. I've registered a "Salvage titled" 2002 GSXR1000 back in 2010 and rode the sh*t out of it....

Try this again, CSP. I wold buy another frame / beater providing your base platform is in better mechanical condition. Then use that title and just DMV it, bypassing CSP altogether.

Do you ever have the feeling there are a bunch of people out there just trying to raise your blood pressure?

Me? No $%^& way.
It's just some folks have a very hard time actually doing their own leg work. Then when someone gives them info right or wrong, they still question what to do. It's rather sad how many "board members" question your pedigree when it comes to things like car accidents, ins, IDPA (remember Tom) 3 gun, shot gunning etc. Still they call your "expertise" in to question, doubting you know anything at all.
Myself i have actually no experience or back ground when it comes to shit either. Guess we are dinosaurs in today's world after all.
BTW: How do i go about getting my next project titled as i only have a MSO [Rant1] Can you see the puzzled looks, ha ha ha

sometimes its just funner to ride to the dirt and then ride home thats why I like this dr650 I just wish it was lighter but it has plenty of power to make up for the weight

have receipts for parts you replaced too. My last built bike, the inspector at CSP asked for all receipts (and mso's) and not just for major parts. I would assume that if the bike has been salvaged, there is a list of damages that caused the salvage. if it says' front fork...make sure you have a receipt for a front fork
