Sierra 200 gr spitzer boat tail

I have a couple thousand Sierra 2165 and was wondering how they would do out of a Fal or dpms 20". I think it's a little light. Would they do ok in a 300 aac? I have a 30/06 but don't shoot it that much.

180+ grain bullets is where the '06 really breaks away from the .308. The bullet is so long that it will take up a significant amount of case volume in the .308 that's normally used for powder.

To illustrate, Sierra's data shows the .308 maxing out around 2,450 fps with this bullet. In .30-06, it shows 2,700 fps max (both 26" barrels).


It's not to say it can't be done in .308 or .300 aac (subsonic, maybe?)... it can. You'll just get the most out of it in the '06.

That's a pretty heavy bullet for use in a .308 semi-auto rifle IMO.
