Let this be a lesson to Washington, D.C.- Don't mess with the NRA, we have the power to make things happen. Anyone else here doubt they'll listen?

You missed the whole thing completely. An outdoor show is cancelled due to the anti-guns' pressure to ban AR-15 type. Boycotts by the gun supporters are given after the organizer bowed down to the anti's pressure. Bottom line, the anti gunners won another one.

Some what at least hunters are now waking up.

The National Wild Turkey Federation, a group supported by turkey hunters, said they were boycotting to raise awareness of the threat against the Second Amendment. "We feel strongly about the importance of the Second Amendment in pursuit of our mission of preserving our hunting heritage," said Skip Motts, president of the NWTF Pennsylvania State Chapter.

Respectfully I disagree.
We lost one gun show and gained cohesion. We showed that it isn't trivial to split off sub groups of gun owners.
Show organizers will rethink doing the same elsewhere.

I was also under the impression the NRA was a sponsor of the show itself, which I assume comes with a financial commitment.

Between the loss of funds and vendors I see this as a minor win.

No doubt.. in short we won the battle between the 'anti AR gun owners' for lack of better term VS the AR supporters. This actually shows how divided we are. Not all vendors boycott the show, just enough to cause the cancellation.
The worst part is that the anti gunners' massive pressure and tons letters to ban AR in the show achieved their goal by the cancellation of the show itself. If the show organizers wouldve backed down to our demand by retracting their stand, allowing the AR products back in and the show goes on as planned, I would count that as a win. Just my opinion!

There is no point to celebrate the cancellation of the show, as we just shut down one of 'our' own events due to the coward move by the organizers to ban AR.

If it's a show that has banned AR/Sporting rifles due to the pressure of public opinion in the aftermath of a crime, it isn't "ours". That just allows us to be divided from the rest of the firearms population.

I love it. I would also like to see the mfrs. cutoff law enforcement in communities where their products are withheld from the populace, like Ronnie Barrett's example.

Next they'll divide the sniper community (hunting rifles), street-sweeper owners (shotguns), and other petty criminals (handguns).

AR platforms are the most popular rifle in the country. If they think they can just ignore that and go about their business, they're wrong.

Frankly, I was happy to see organizations I support tell Reed shows to stuff it. Reed wasn't making some high and mighty stand - they didn't ban ARs at SHOT did they? It was a PR stunt that backfired on them.

I agree, I think manufacturers like Glock, Bushmaster, S&W should quit selling to law enforcement and gobment in ungun friendly states.
They make more off civilian sales then LE so they have more to lose. They should tell NY LE they can no longer sell or support those evil high cap mags, here is your order of 7 rounders.

Maybe it's a re-post, maybe it's not.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/24/gun-show-boycott_n_2546034.html

One of the nation's largest outdoor shows was postponed indefinitely on Thursday after pro-gun rights groups and the National Rifle Association boycotted the event in response to a decision by organizers to ban the exhibition of military-style assault weapons.
The weeklong Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show was scheduled to begin (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/24/gun-show-boycott_n_2546034.html#) Feb. 2 in Harrisburg, Penn., but Reed Exhibitions, the show's organizer, posted a statement on its website (http://www.easternsportshow.com/) announcing that the show would be "postpone[d], for now … given the controversy surrounding its decision to limit the sale or display of modern sporting rifles (also called ARs) at the event." "Modern sporting rifle" is a term devised and promoted (http://www.nssf.org/msr/) by the gun manufacturing industry to describe military-style assault weapons.
The initial decision on Jan. 16 to bar the display of assault weapons at the family-themed event was made in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Connecticut, a tragedy which galvanized public support for broader gun safety laws and led to a vigorous debate over the merits of civilian ownership of "modern sporting rifles" (MSRs).
According to Reed Exhibitions' United States President Chet Burchett, "in the current climate, we felt that the presence of MSRs would distract from the theme of hunting and fishing (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/24/gun-show-boycott_n_2546034.html#), disrupting the broader experience of our guests. This was intended simply as a product decision, of the type event organizers need to make every day."
But that's not how gun rights groups saw it. On Jan. 15, a group called My Northeast Outdoors called for a boycott (https://www.facebook.com/BoycottTheEasternSportsAndOutdoorShow) of the show on Facebook, saying the Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show "decided to infringe on our Second Amendment Rights and has instituted a ban on 'certain weapons' at their show for 2013." The group urged supporters (http://mynortheastoutdoors.com/rally-your-21st-century-minute-men/)to help spread the word.
The nascent boycott only gathered steam this week, when on Tuesday the NRAannounced (http://www.nraila.org/news-issues/news-from-nra-ila/2013/nra-withdraws-from-eastern-sports-outdoor-show-due-to-reed-exhibitions-decision-to-ban-modersn-sporting-rifles.aspx?s=&st=&ps=) that it was pulling out of the show "due to Reed Exhibitions' refusal to reconsider their decision to ban Modern Sporting Rifles." Following (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/24/gun-show-boycott_n_2546034.html#) the NRA's decision, hundreds more vendors pulled out, as did Olympic shooting gold-medalistJamie Gray (http://www.pennlive.com/sports/index.ssf/2013/01/qa_with_jamie_gray_olympic_gol.html). By Thursday afternoon, the boycott's Facebook page had more than 18,000 Likes.
Following the mass exodus of hundreds of exhibitors (http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2013/01/boycott_guns_eastern_sports_an.html#incart_river) Burchet said, “it has become very clear to us after speaking with our customers that the event could not be held because the atmosphere of this year’s show would not be conducive to an event that is designed to provide family enjoyment. It is unfortunate that in the current emotionally charged atmosphere this celebratory event has become overshadowed by a decision that directly affected a small percentage of more than 1,000 exhibits showcasing products and services for those interested in hunting and fishing."

Contrast that to the AWB with Clinton when the CEO of S&W supported it. Give no quarter, as they want to disarm everyone.
