Ok, this is a bit off topic, but I'm wondering if I'm the only weirdo left that doesn't have a cell phone.

Earlier today I was talking to someone and they asked me what time it was and I looked at my watch. To which they responded "A watch? Nobody wears watches anymore, the just look at their cell phones". I said I didn't have a cell phone and they looked at me like I said I didn't have running water in my house.

So here's the question, do you have a cell phone and if so what kind (generally, I don't care about iPhone vs Android or any of that nonsense).

I do have a cell phone, a smart-phone, and I kind of resent their necessity today. I was one of the last holdouts until a few years ago when I finally succumbed to the convenience factor. However, I take great pains to not let it become a leash for me. I rarely carry it when I'm not at work, frequently (and deliberately) "forget" it at home when out and about, and don't ever pick up unless I'm waiting for a specific call. Between the GPS tracking that I know is being misused, and the fact that people assume I should always be immediately accessible, I impose some limits on it.

My Glock however...

I have an iPhone but in the next couple weeks I'm going back to a dumb phone. I really don't need what I have.

I have a smart phone since I like to look up news, sports scores and watch youtube on it. If I do not recognize a number I do not pick up, and often I leave it on my desk at home and leave it on silent and don't notice any calls until I look at it and see the green light blinking at me. No land line in the house either.

Zund, by not having a cell phone by today's standards is exactly like not having running water... Unless you live in a cave... or in Bailey. [Coffee]
I still wear a watch everyday... I also own one of them new-fangled, hi-tek smart phony thingies.

I moved back from overseas 9 years ago into a job that I knew would have me traveling a lot. I took that as an opportunity to do a clean break and went cell phone only -- Mom and friends didn't have to know or remember whether I was traveling, they just call one number and don't worry about it.

I have an LG flip phone and refuse to get a data plan. I got it while I was in college (the last person by a long way in my circles) instead of reconnecting the land line after a move. These days it's getting really hard to get a "dumb phone" that's well made and I'm trying to take really good care of the one I have. Who knows if I'll be able replace it in a year or so.

It works great for my life. I spend all day in front of a computer and obviously it's no problem from home. When I go out the last thing I want to do is look at another screen and I really like being somewhat unreachable from time to time.

no cell here. have considered replacing the land line with a cell a couple times but it comes down to not being worth paying more for a reduction in quality.

My wife has tried to get me to switch to a "smart" phone but trying to navigate email and the web on those postage-stamp size screens drives me nuts - I went to the store and truly tried to envision myself with one of those things, no-go. I make photographs for a living and that entails either being so far off in the sticks that there's no coverage for a smart phone, or I'm at my desk working on a very large HD display with web/email quite readily available. I'll hold out at long as I can with the dumb phone, I really have no interest in smart phones, or the fees involved therewith. The mad rush by the masses to get the latest phone or pad every time the makers release the next generation absolutely boggles my mind.

I have a smart phone and use it more as a computer than phone. I deal with phones all day at work so by the time I leave, I cringe at the sound of a phone or being "available". I leave it on silent and check it at my convenience.

i have a cell phone. It doesnt work here at the house unless the planets are in some kind of weird alignment. I would say it gets about 3 minutes of use a month. I only use it if I leave the house, and that maybe happens 1 time a month or every couple months.

Motorola Droid RAZR here, would be happy to ditch it & go back to a 'dumb' flip phone that just texts & makes calls.

I'm 43 and I used to have a cell phone when my boss issued them to us ... then he got cheap and took them all away.

I just can't justify the cost. The only time I really wish I had one are the once a year around Thanksgiving that we drive to Wichita from Colorado Springs to visit family ... then it would be nice to have one just in case we broke down.

Otherwise it's just an extravagance that I'd rather not pay for.

Unless you're "on call" for work, I really can't see where the damn things wouldn't become more of an annoyance than a convenience.

Samsung Galaxy SIII. Love it!

ETA: I also have VoIP for the home phone with free long-distance. I use ViaTalk and I think it costs me around $13/month for a boat-load of features.

I have a Galaxy S3, and we do VOIP ( Magic Jack, cheap!) for a land line at the house, but nobody outside of immediate family has that number. I use the smart features more than I thought I would, mostly information and navigation (when outside my normal 'hood).

At first I never had a cell, never needed it.
Now with family having medical issues and me not being home a lot I had needed to be able to be contacted for emergencies.
Nothing fancy just a dumb phone.I think I'm one of the few left that still uses the nextel 2 way.It worked great back when I was working in NY,saved a lot of wait time in the shop.

I've kicked around the idea of buying something like this (http://www.cowonglobal.com/product_wide/COWOND3/product_page_5.php) because I do use an MP3 player at the gym and would use a smartphone type device over WiFi (since there's so much free WiFi ... especially in my living room).

I personally have a land line and no cell phone. Work provides me with a cell (might be why I got rid of mine) and I didn't want to carry two of them.

Just got rid of my work issue Nextel. Push to talk was the most fantastic way to talk at work. Sprint effed it up. Lately it only worked 40 percent of the time. Smartphones are time killers.

If work didn't require a phone, I'd go back to a dumb one most likely. It's easy to manage my google voice for work functions, giving me the ability to not give out my real number. Yes, it can be done with the dumb phone, but easier on the smart ones.

I'd like to kill my landline, as it's not really "hardwire" to my location anymore - fiber. So I don't have much faith in that running through a SHTF situation. :)

I have an over rated iphone 4s and it's a piece of crap. Going back to droid when I can upgrade. I resisted getting one for the longest time but it sure makes life easier. I use it a lot for the maps and news. I haven't bought a newspaper in ages.

VOIP at the shop.
Lan line at the house. Cell is spotty at best.

I have had a "smart" phone for several years now. Not sure how I ever lived without it. I love being able to use Internet, maps, etc. from wherever I am. And since I hate talking on the phone it's nice to be able to text people. If I forget my phone at the house I feel weird going around without it.

I was in the same boat, and did not have a cell phone for 5 years. I canceled my contract before my last deployment and did not get one until last month. I jumped on the free Samsung Galaxy SIII. Let me tell you, cell phones have come a long way since 2007. I almost shit my pants when I used the voice activated navigation and it worked perfectly the first time. Im sure that I am one of those idiots that has a device 3x smarter than themselves and has capabilities I will never know of much less use, but I have to admit it is very useful. I just have to remember to keep memorizing all the phone numbers that are important to me in case it blows up or something.
